Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Coco enjoyed romping around together this morning. We hit an empty stretch of trail so I was able to let Sputnik off without worry of him mishandling greeting another dog. The chased and rough-housed with each other while Cooper hiked along with me. Cooper got pretty worked up seeing his packmates running around and he started to bark at them. His pleas failed to get either Sputnik or Coco's attention, and he didn't settle down until Sputnik eventually came back on leash with him. Variety Pack Ruffers and Colby made some playful moves with each other on the trail loop at CU South Campus. However, there were a lot of other dogs around and Colby made a couple ho

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We got a bit wetter on the trails this morning. By the end of the hike, Ruffers, Colby, Mamacita, and Sputnik were all coated in a mist of dew drops. While Mamacita and Sputnik didn't act out toward any of the dogs or people on the trails, Mamacita had an attitude toward people we drove by while in the car on our way to and from the Chautauqua. Colby was a bit wary of some of the people we passed and she scampered past them with a look of mistrust. Ruffers was her usual, friendly self and lingered to sniff at some of the dogs we passed. Variety Pack A nine-year-old, white-coated Husky came over to say hello to Thompson at the park this afternoon. Meanwhile, Zoey was enjoy

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There were butterflies everywhere today! Coco tried to catch one who flew dangerously close to her, but it managed to dodge her jaws. There were a lot of dogs on the trails today as well, and we gave them a wide berth after yesterday's outburst from Sputnik. While I focused on having Sputnik sit and stay calm, Cooper and Coco watched the dogs go by and Griff just sniffed around in the brush. Cooper whined a bit at some of the dogs as they passed, but the pack otherwise kept their cool. Variety Pack Colby, Zoey, and Ruffers all had some fun chasing each other along the trail at CU South Campus this afternoon. There were lots of butterflies there, too, but I didn't see any

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The weather has taken quite a turn, as it was in the 40's and overcast for our hike this morning. The cool weather seems to have brought out Mamacita's feisty side, as she barked at a passing dog for the first time in a very long time. Mamacita's outburst spurred Sputnik on to make a a tough-guy show as well. Thankfully, Cooper didn't add to the fuss and Rucksack was calm as usual. Other than that encounter, we had a pleasant time hiking at the Chautauqua and only came across one muddy patch along the way. Variety Pack Thompson, Coco, Stella, and Colby enjoyed a walk along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. There were intermittent sprinkles as we made our way, but not en

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita, Cooper, Sputnik, and Rucksack enjoyed another hike at the Chautauqua this morning. Everyone did a lot of sniffing at the outset of our hike. Cooper and Sputnik seem to have reached another armistice in the war to leave the most scent marks during our outings, as they both kept it to only a few spots apiece early on and only a few other spots spread out over the rest of the hike. Variety Pack Coco's grass-wiggling shenanigans inspired Thompson to join her this afternoon. Stella just tried to dodge her as Coco kept flopping down right next to her. Coco and Cooper made some playful moves with each other in the open field.

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Coco played queen of the mountain when we pulled over to the side of the trail to let some other hikers pass. Sputnik, Cooper, and Griff all gathered in front of a big boulder, while Coco decided she needed to be on top of that boulder. On our way up the trail, we came across a patch of bee activity. Griff tried chomping at them as they flew by his head. Sputnik and Coco mostly just watched them intently. Cooper didn't mind them too much, but he chomped at a fly that was buzzing around him a little later on. Variety Pack Zoey went straight for the kiddie pool and then after a tennis ball when we arrived at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon, while Ruffers went over to sa

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Some hikers commented on how well behaved the pack was as they posed for a photo on our way up the Chautauqua Trail this morning. Ruffers, who was off leash at the time, went right over to say hello. She was soon followed by Sputnik, who is always eager to get any human attention he can. Mamacita walked over a little more tentatively and sniffed at them. Colby kept her distance and kept looking around to make sure everything was cool. Colby settled down when we got moving again, but she was a little jumpy whenever we passed by other hikers. Later on, Sputnik went off leash with Ruffers. He kept running up ahead and lying down to wait in ambush and then leap out and run

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There were no grumbles between Sputnik and Cooper this morning (just Cooper's general, undirected fuss when I helped him into the car) but the two of them still felt the need to pee on everything again during our hike; and Griff joined the club, too. When Coco and Griff were off leash a later on in the hike, the two of them wandered off into the brush to sniff around. Griff got a bit ahead at one point and was somewhat stubborn about coming back to the group, but eventually gave in. I remember when Coco was young and she often pulled the same stubborn routine; but now she at least waits for me to catch up to her when I call, and sometimes just comes right back. Variety Pack

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure pack Cooper always grumbles a bit when he first climbs into the car in the morning. He seems to be telling the other dogs, "Yeah, I need some help, so what?! Don't make fun of me." The other dogs usually just ignore him and he stops making a fuss once he's up. Today, Sputnik grumbled back at him. I addressed Sputnik and the two of them settled down pretty quickly; but that bit of rivalry seemed to be enough to spark up their pissing contests anew, so we ended up making frequent stops along the trails for them to sniff out spots and pee over each other's marks. Rucksack joined in on some of the sniffing and marking as well, but not with the same level of enthusiasm and determin

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita, Rucksack, Colby, and Sputnik had a nice hike at the Chautauqua this morning. Colby and Sputnik were both very interested in a dog and human who were hiking behind us, and they kept turning around to check on them until we headed down different trails. Rucksack has left Mamacita's ears unlicked for some time now. I wonder whether Mamacita is glad not to have to deal with the annoyance, or sad that she isn't getting the same attention anymore. Variety Pack Stella and Zoey enjoyed sniffing around Eben G. Fine Park at the outset of our walk this afternoon. Colby and Coco gave some passing attention to the spots that interested their packmates. We all had a pleasant

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure pack Coco stuck closer to the pack than usual today, while Griff played scout ahead of the group. Cooper seemed to have a slightly easier time keeping up. He got very excited about a passing German Shepherd on our way up the hill, and I think that excitement got his energy level up. Sputnik started a slight grumble when the German Shepherd paused to sniff at the pack, but he let it go pretty quickly without freaking out. Variety Pack The pack was all really playful at the park this afternoon. Early on, Ruffers chased Colby around while Zoey went on a sniffing adventure and Isaac got straight to some fetch. Later on, we met several fun dogs. A Weimaraner puppy and a chocolate

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Colby gave kisses to each of her packmates as the joined us in the packmobile this morning. She stood right at the door and leaned down to lick their noses before backing up and letting them in - first Mamacita, then Sputnik, then Ruffers. Sputnik and Ruffers both returned the affection, while Mamacita merely accepted it. One we got to the Chautauqua, it was another slow and steady climb up. Surprisingly, Sputnik was our caboose today. Variety Pack Coco, Zoey, and Colby all stuck pretty close during our hike at the CU South Campus trails this afternoon. None of them was in the mood for any big runs despite having plenty of open space and freedom from leashes. Coco played

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack No praying mantis sightings today, but a ladybug landed on Sputnik's back at one point. Griff spotted something in the meadow at the Chautauqua as we walked along the Baseline Trail. I couldn't find what he was looking at, but he woofed a few times and was very focused. None of the rest of the pack picked up on anything. Coco was interested for a moment but then stopped looking when she couldn't identify the source of Griff's concern, either. Later on, We passed by an area that was shrouded in bushes and I noticed something stirring. After a moment, I saw deer legs through the bushes. Cooper noticed, as well, and wanted to stay to watch them, but I got him to follow the

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We encountered another praying mantis this morning. This time, it was standing directly in the middle of the Baseline Trail, which we took at the outset of our hike. The dogs didn't notice it, but I fanned them out to either side and stepped carefully to avoid crushing it. We came across a couple off-leash dogs who came up to sniff hello with the pack. Mamacita and Rucksack were friendly as usual. Sputnik and Cooper, who tend to get themselves worked up sometimes, stayed calm and friendly as everyone greeted. We looped back to the base of the Chautauqua Trail and even though we were only about one third of the way through the hike, the pack really dragged up the hill - e

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita was happy to greet her friend Griff when we picked him up this morning. She usually just lies at the back of the packmobile as we pick up her packmates for the hike, but when Griff joined us she stood up and came to the doorway with her tail wagging and her nose stuck out as far as she could reach. Early on in the hike, a praying mantis decided to climb onto my leg while I was picking up after Rucksack. The dogs didn't react to it. I brushed it off when it started making it's way up my shirt. Griff and Rucksack enjoyed exploring off the trail a bit while Sputnik and Mamacita stayed on leash at my side. Much like yesterday, the dogs were pretty mellow and mostly

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack was all panting from the outset and took a slow, steady pace on the trails this morning even though the temperature wasn't particularly high. It did feel a bit more humid than usual. Cooper was very vocal about the first few dogs he saw when they passed by the car after we parked, but he was much tamer with passing dogs once we were on the trail. Sputnik also took the passing of dogs on the trails in stride. Coco and Griff leaned across the trail to sniff get a sniff of some of the other dogs we saw. Variety Pack Colby joined in alongside Isaac and Zoey for some fetch. She also took their lead and hopped into the kiddie pool a couple times. Isaac and Zoey are re

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita had fun wiggling around in the tall grass at the outset of our hike at the Chautauqua this morning while Sputnik, Ruffers, and Colby looked on. Later on, Ruffers chased Colby around through the brush. After they ran around a bit, they just trotted along the trail until Colby noticed a couple people up ahead and started to make whimper noises. I called Colby back and put her on a leash and Ruffers followed along behind me and the pack as we passed by them and continued on to more traveled trails. Variety Pack Zoey and Coco made fast friends with a young Pit Bull and chased her around together for a while. Yoda followed up with them while Thompson headed off on his

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff played scout for Sputnik and Cooper by identifying points of interest along the trail. When Griff found a spot and sniffed at it a bit, Sputnik and Cooper followed up on leash with me and engaged in their own investigations. Coco sniffed along the trail in passing but didn't apply the same focus as her packmates to any particular spot. Variety Pack Thompson rejoined the pack under the cooler weather that graced us today. We headed to CU South Campus and took a leisurely pace as we wound throughout the western trails. Ruffers eagerly sniffed hello with the dogs who passed by, while Zoey, Isaac, Colby, and Thompson were content to pass on by most of the time. However,

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack enjoyed another light hike at the CU South Campus Trails this morning. Cooper was pretty worked up about the other dogs at the trail head again and whined profusely when a little herding dog ran over to sniff hello with the pack. Mamacita had an extra bounce in her step today and walked with her ears perked up for much of the time. When we came to the one hill along our path, Cooper was unenthusiastic about making the climb. We took a break for a minute near the base to let him muster up the will to ascend. Sputnik, Rucksack, and Mamacita were happy to sniff around while Cooper caught his breath. Variety Pack Stella, Isaac, Sputnik, Colby, and Coco all kept their
