Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We took a slower pace than usual as I still had pretty low energy after recovering from the apparent food poisoning I suffered late Monday night. Colby, Ruffers, Sputnik, and Mamacita were accommodating as they were happy to take their time sniffing along the trail. Sputnik especially took advantage of the opportunity and ended up marking about every 30 paces during the first part of our ascent. Variety Pack Yoda, Thompson, Coco, and Zoey enjoyed a trip to the CU South Campus trails this afternoon. Yoda and Zoey tended to linger behind in order to sniff out spots of interest. Coco led the way most of the time, while Thompson trotted along at my side. Whenever Yoda and Zoe

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik, Mamacita, Rucksack, and Coco all enjoyed sniffing along Bluebell Road and the Mesa Trail at the Chautauqua this morning. We made several stops along the way for the pack to engage in more thorough investigations. Rucksack and Coco greeted some dogs off leash while Sputnik and Mamacita stuck by me. Sputnik did pretty well with the passing dogs but he wasn't quite as composed as he had been last week. Variety Pack Coco, Zoey, Thompson, Colby, Blu, and Stella were all over the place at the beginning of the walk as everyone wanted to find their place to relieve themselves. However, once we got that out of the way everyone trotted along in place exceptionally well for

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik, Colby, Mamacita, and Ruffers enjoyed our hike on the Mesa Trail this morning amidst a holiday surge of hikers both human and canine. Most were very pleasant, but one off-leash dog who we encountered near the end of our hike made a short charge and barked at us just as we passed. Sputnik showed great poise by not responding in kind. Instead, he just stood his ground on the far side of me and watched until the other dog moved on, only letting out a slight, restrained grumble when the dog lingered. Mamacita and Ruffers responded differently by immediately walking toward the other dog and sniffing him in a gentle greeting, which abruptly defused the show of aggression

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Coco licked dew from the tall grass beside the trail and nibbled a bit as they sniffed around. Rucksack gave Colby the ear-licking treatment today with much the same effect as with Mamacita yesterday. Variety Pack Blu and Roger Roger joined the regular pack for our afternoon jaunt along the CU South Campus trails. Ruffers payed a little more attention to Blu today and dropped into an inviting play bow for him. Blu was distracted by everything, however, and Zoey swooped in to play with Ruffers. Isaac then chased Zoey around for a bit. Roger Roger joined in to wrestle around with both Ruffers and Zoey. Thompson and Blu sat out from the flurry of playful activit

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik was in a more agreeable mood than last week and stayed calm and pleasant with the several dogs we encountered along the trails today. He was very interested in sniffing around whenever we lingered anywhere. Coco was less intent than Sputnik but she followed up with his finds some of the time. Mamacita got the full ear-licking treatment from Rucksack for the first time in a while. He started off during the last stretch of the hike and by the time we reached the trail head, Mamacita's ears were thoroughly soaked. Variety Pack The pack was joined by a new temporary addition today: Blu! Blu is the six-month-old successor to our beloved honorary packmate Luca, who pass

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There was a lot of sniffing along the trails again today. Rucksack and Coco went for a brief run together when I first let them off leash but they quickly broke off to go follow their noses in different directions. As we continued, they gradually came together more and more until they were both sticking to the trail and checking out spots on either edge together. Sputnik and Mamacita made a few long pauses to thoroughly investigate spots along the way together, as well. Variety Pack Roger Roger - who used to come out with the pack regularly - joined us this afternoon and was instantly infatuated with fellow Doodle, Zoey. He chased her all around and made several attempts t

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack It was another mellow day on the trails. Colby ran on her own a bit, but when Griff didn't pursue, she came back and just followed him around as he sniffed in the tall grass. Sputnik and Coco trotted along at my side, making occasional stops to sniff around as well. Variety Pack Thompson, Zoey, and Isaac were all eager to get into the creek when we made a stop during our walk along the Boulder Creek Path this afternoon. Ruffers waited for her packmates on dry land. Isaac stepped on something that got caught between his toes and his paw up to check it out. Ruffers came over to see what was up and then Zoey joined in. When Isaac stopped licking his paw, he was still limpin

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers and Zoey had fun exploring off leash together this morning. Again, the pack were more interested in sniffing around than in playing. While Colby and Ruffers were checking stuff out, Sputnik and Mamacita were nibbling on grass. When a woman asked to say hello to the pack near the end of our hike, I was surprised to see that Colby was the first to go up and get a pet. Ruffers got some love too but Sputnik and Mamacita were too busy sniffing and nibbling on grass to be bothered with saying hello. Variety Pack Thompson, Coco, and Zoey enjoyed a walk along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Zoey and Thompson were both very eager to find a place to pee at the outset, a

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack was in a pretty mellow mood on our hike this morning. We just ambled along and lingered in places along the way while Griff, Coco, and Sputnik all sniffed around. The weather was perfect for hiking so it was a pleasure to take our time along the trails. Variety Pack Ruffers had fun with a Golden Retriever puppy and later a young dog who looked like he may have been some kind of Shepherd mix. Meanwhile, Isaac played many rounds of fetch. Zoey played some fetch with me but generally found it more entertaining to elbow in on fetch sessions alongside other dogs and then play keep away when she beat them to it. Thompson had the attention of a smallish Malamute when we

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Coco just sniffed along the trail when I let them off leash together on the Mesa Trail this morning - no chasing or wrestling. When I saw other dogs coming up the trail, Sputnik came back on the leash with Mamacita and me while Rucksack took a turn off the leash. Rucksack and Coco greeted a dog who was carrying a stick. I wondered whether Rucksack would be inspired to find one of his own, but he wasn't. The pack were calm and friendly as we passed and briefly greeted various dogs; however, there was dog who lingered for a while and eventually Sputnik got uneasy and growled for a brief moment. With human hikers, the pack was unanimously and consistently friendl

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Coco and Rucksack ran around the trails together briefly before settling down and following their noses. Sputnik and Mamacita were pretty mellow today. They didn't react to their packmates running around. Everyone mostly just wanted to sniff and walk along calmly. Variety Pack Isaac, Colby, Coco, Stella, and Thompson enjoyed a pleasant walk along the Boulder Creek Path this afternoon. Like the adventure pack this morning, the dogs were all content to just walk along. The only moment of excitement was when a biker hopped up onto the sidewalk from the dirt path beside it just as he was passing us. It made me jump a little but Colby really leaped out of her skin. The rest

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik was full of energy when I let him off the leash with Colby this morning. Colby wasn't sure what to make of Sputnik's boundless energy and she ended up just sticking close to the pack while Sputnik dropped into play-bows around us and egged on Coco. Later on, Coco and Griff ran together, up and down alongside the trail. Variety Pack The pack enjoyed a leisurely walk along the trails at CU South Campus this afternoon. Zoey chased Ruffers all around through a small patch of meadow beside the trail at one point. Isaac watched them with interest and made some playful darts and dodges. Mamacita and Thompson walked along calmly and sniffed beside the trail on and off as

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Mamacita were both a bit edgy with passing dogs on the trails this morning. Mamacita whimpered grumbled under her breath, while Sputnik growled at the first dog we passed. After that, I brought the pack to the side of the trail to sit and wait while other dogs passed. Ruffers and Colby behaved themselves well so they got to have some fun running around off leash together. Mamacita danced around while watching her packmates run through the snow. Sputnik wasn't that interested at first but when Colby and Ruffers started wrestling around a bit, he wanted to join and tried to pull us over to them. Variety Pack Zoey and Coco enjoyed chomping on some snow beside th

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Colby and Griff raced around through the snow beside the Mesa Trail this morning. Unfortunately, they ran around independently of each other in the hopes that the other would chase after them, but they never got in sync. Later on, Coco and Griff played scout as they checked out the trail ahead. Coco was sporting her new winter coat. Of course, at one point during the hike, she found a tree to rub against like she always does when she is wearing clothes. Despite there being few hikers out today, almost all of them had dogs. Sputnik was in a less inviting mood than average so I kept him on a short leash as we passed them. Near the end of our hike, Sputnik turned his atten

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The dogs spent a long time sniffing around in the tall grass when we first set out along the Baseline Trail at the Chautauqua this morning. As we continued on, there were a few more spots that the pack found just as interesting. Sputnik was usually the first one to veer off. Then, Mamacita, Rucksack, and Coco all came over to smell what scents Sputnik had found. Coco eventually lost interest and didn't bother to follow up for the last couple stops; instead opting to just stand in the trail and wait for her packmates to get moving again. Variety Pack Thompson, Colby, and Stella were just as interested in sniffing around as their counterparts had been this morning. They wer

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack, Sputnik, and Mamacita all engaged in some thorough investigations at various points along the trail this morning. At one point, Mamacita marked a spot after sniffing it and then Sputnik got a face full of dirt and gravel when he moved in to check it out just as Mamacita punctuated her claim by scraping the ground in front of it. Sputnik shook it off and then proceeded to sniff around the spot. Variety Pack Colby went for a couple runs through the tall grass at CU South while Coco waited at the edge of the trail to meet her with some playful moves. Stella and Thompson trotted along steadily behind me. The pack sniffed hello with some dogs we passed along the way.

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff was bounding with energy on the trails this morning. Coco ran alongside him some of the time, but she couldn't keep up as Griff zipped up and down through the brush beside the trail. Sputnik sniffed around and left a lot of scent marks along the way even without Cooper there to compete with him. Variety Pack Isaac had a young Australian Cattle Dog tag-along as he played fetch at the Valmont Park this afternoon. The Cattle Dog also chased Zoey around a bit while Zoey chased down some tennis balls. In between rounds of fetch, Zoey went off to sniff around the park's perimeter. Ruffers found a lot of friends to play with today. There was another Australian Shepherd, a

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Colby and Ruffers had a great time playing chase through the tall grass along the Enchanted Mesa Trail this morning. Colby liked taking long routes around obstacles, like fallen tree trunks, while Ruffers waited for her to come back around and then chased her off to the next route. I think Colby enjoyed herself on her fourth birthday today! Meanwhile, Sputnik and Mamacita hiked along with me and whimpered with sympathetic enthusiasm as their packmates ran by. Variety Pack Yoda, Coco, and Zoey all wandered and sniffed around as we made our way around the loop at CU South Campus. Eventually, Yoda settled into place behind me while Coco and Zoey ran through ditches. There we
