    Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Pack member Ruby hasn't seen Sputnik in a while, and, to my recollection, hasn't met Dylan before, so I was expecting a few grumbles when they hopped into the car with her this morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see them both sniff hello with Ruby in a very friendly manner, without a single grumble or irritated lip-curl from either. Ruby likewise greeted the boys in calm and friendly fashion, after already getting acquainted with Racer at the house, earli

Adventure Pack Racer couldn't get into the stream quick enough, when we stopped at the Gregory Canyon Trail Head during our hike. Carl, Griff, and Sputnik were all soon to follow her. Carl tested out all the twigs he could find, strewn about in the water. Variety Pack 'Tis the season for rolling in grass. Mamacita, Avo, and Riley all partook multiple times during our walk on the Bear Creek Path. Ruffers even joined in once, when Riley found a spot that smelled interesting

Adventure Pack It was cool and cloudy enough today that Dylan didn't feel the need to direct us to the Gregory Canyon stream. We still spent a lot of time inching along the Baseline Trail, as the dogs had a lot of sniffing to do. On our way up the mountain, Dylan lingered behind sometimes to sniff with Ruffers, while Avo and Sputnik kept up on leash with me. Dylan passed us every so often, then would drift back with Ruffers again. Avo and Sputnik took some water, while Dy

Adventure Pack We saw a lot of other dogs near the trail head when we first set out at the Chautauqua this morning. Despite all the distractions, Griff, Carl, Sputnik, and Racer were no less interested in sniffing around in the grass. It was warm enough today that Griff took some water from the CamelBak. Carl is getting pretty good at drinking from the spout like his packmates. Racer and Sputnik had mighty thirsts to quench, as always. Variety Pack Zoey and Rey had a comp

Adventure Pack The Baseline Trail must be frequented by a tremendous number of different dogs, because the packs just can't seem to do enough sniffing along it. Ruffers, Sputnik, and Riley all took their time investigating scents, and only inched forward to the next sniffing-spot upon my insistence. Once we were off the Baseline Trail and making our way up the mountain, the drive to sniff quickly diminished, and we kept a pretty steady pace. Ruffers didn't uncover and carc

Adventure Pack I was surprised when Dylan stood on the bank of the stream next to me while Sputnik, Zoey, and Carl all hopped in and got wet. Dylan waited until we were about to resume hiking, to go down and just get his paws wet. Carl ran up and down the trail, ahead of the pack and behind it, as we made our way up the mountain. Dylan didn't pay much attention to his puppy packmate, and just trotted along. Sputnik was preoccupied with sniffing at Zoey. Judging by his po

Adventure Pack Racer chewed on sticks in the stream at the Gregory Canyon Trail Head, while Griff enjoyed the water. Carl and Sputnik mostly stuck to the bank, only barely getting their paws wet. Carl spent some time off leash with Sputnik today. Carl wandered off his own way while Sputnik stuck close to the group. We practiced Carl's recall a few times, and I doled out treats to the pack to provide encouragement. Variety Pack The pack made slow progress through Martin Pa

Adventure Pack Sputnik joined Dylan in the stream at Gregory Canyon today, while Ruffers sat with me on a nearby rock. The dogs took turns off leash in pairs as we headed up the mountain on the Bluebell-Baird Trail, looped around the connector to the Flatiron trails, and made our way back down along the Ski Jump Trail. Ruffers lingered to sniff hello with a couple dogs we passed. Sputnik and Dylan stuck near me, with Dylan in front, as usual. Everyone was especially eager

Adventure Pack Griff, Carl, Racer, and Sputnik again took their time sniffing along the Baseline Trail today; however, they zeroed in on more of the same spots, rather than all diverging. Carl got to spend a little time off leash with Griff, whom he followed around everywhere. Meanwhile, Racer and Sputnik stuck with me. The two of them were especially happy to say hello to a friend we've made named Bryan, who often stops to talk for a few minutes when we cross paths. Race

Adventure Pack Riley, Sputnik, and Ruffers were deeply interested in all the smells along the Baseline Trail. We could hardly take three steps without the pack veering off into the grass to follow up on one scent or another. Later on in the hike, when Ruffers and Sputnik were off leash, Ruffers was lingering behind and then wandered off. When she finally heeded my calls and returned to the trail, she was carrying a small deer hoof in her mouth, which I promptly had her dro
