Friday Pack Activities (6/14/2024)

Adventure Pack

Nelly, Griff, Lou, and Sanni all kept in pretty close formation throughout the hike today. Despite the lower temperature and cloudy skies, the humidity made the heat feel more oppressive than yesterday when temperatures were in the 90's. We made our way up Saddle Rock Trail at a moderate pace and didn't go quite as far up as we typically have been going lately. Even though the tongues were out, Lou was the only one with any interest in drinking from the CamelBak - and only for a fleeting moment. However, everybody stopped for a drink from the stream after we made our way back down the mountain. Nelly was hit with a strong urge to munch on grass at one point and she veered off into the brush for it. After I drew her back onto the trail, her craving quickly subsided and she didn't make any more such detours.

Variety Pack

Sanni was very interested in the first prairie dog who chirped at us in the distance on Goose Creek Greenway at Valmont Park this afternoon. Carl, Griff, Ruffers, and Buddy were all more interested in the scents to be found in the nearby brush. Buddy tried tackling Sanni and then Ruffers in turn during the return leg of the walk, but he laid off of the troublemaking after I stopped and addressed him a few times. A pair of deer crossed the path a way ahead of us, and only Griff and Ruffers took notice. They both perked up and started to pull a bit while the rest of the pack were poking along doing their own things.
