Adventure Pack
Griff, Arlo, Racer, and Rey headed to Boulder Creek Path for their pack outing today. I thought we might go up the mountain on Anemone Trail, but it was already in the 80s F when we set out, and the sun was shining, so we stuck to the cooler route. Racer had her nose to the ground most of the time, as she often does. Imogene was quick to sniff along with her whenever she came upon an interesting area. Griff and Arlo patrolled the other side of the path for noteworthy scents. Griff has been a bit more stubborn lately and has been pulling off the path to check things out instead of just following in place behind me. I neglected to pull the phone out for a pack photo today.
Variety Pack
We encountered several squirrels this afternoon along Boulder Creek Path. The first was in the same spot as last week when Afie and Lucy got worked up about it. Alfie jumped and whined as we walked under the squirrel, who had just run up a small tree and was hanging out on a low limb, watching the pack go by. Later, Tozai also perked up when one squirrel chased another down a tree just ahead of us, and the second squirrel then ran across the path just a few yards away to run up a tree on the opposite side. We then came by one more squirrel hanging out on a branch that we walked under. Alfie and Tozai were primed to focus on squirrel activity by that point, so they watched intently even though the squirrel wasn't doing anything but sitting there. Lou and Carl didn't care about the squirrels. They were more interested in sniffing and marking along the path. At one point, Lou squatted to leave her mark, and Carl lifted a leg next to her to do the same; Tozai then followed suit and was quite reckless with his aim, so Lou had to have her tail rinsed off afterwards.
