Monday Pack Activities (8/17/2026)
Adventure Pack Carl always wants to check and mark the first tree we encounter when we enter Eben G. Fine Park from the underpass, but people are often there so I make him skip it and go to the next one instead. The whole pack checked out one particular juvenile tree volunteer a little further along Boulder Creek Path. Bear and Carl in particular seemed like they would have just sniffed around it all day if I hadn't eventually prodded them along. Bear, Rey, and Tozai all got

Friday Pack Activities (8/14/2026)
Adventure Pack Yoshi and Lucy roamed the fields around Red Rocks Trail on our way up the mountain while Lou and Tozai trekked along at my sides. Lucy seemed to be in hunting mode, scanning the landscape for critters to chase after, while Yoshi was sniffing his way along the trail. Even though the air temperature was a bit cooler today, the sun was out and beating down on us, so we spent the latter part of the outing strolling Boulder Creek Path, with a quick dip in the water

Thursday Pack Activities (8/13/2026)
Adventure Pack Arlo, Griff, Rey, and Racer headed up Red Rocks Trail under grey skies. Either Arlo heard faint, distant rumbles of thunder or he is just sensitive to the kind of weather that heralds it, because he was very hesitant to go up the mountain and kept rearing back. He didn't totally shut down the way he has done when there are nearby cracks of thunder or fireworks, and I was able to get him to keep going. Racer, Griff, and Rey were all happy to be hitting the trail

Wednesday Pack Activities (8/12/2026)
Adventure Pack Yoshi, Tozai, Bear, and Nelly headed to Boulder Creek Path again today. Nelly actually put her front paws into the water while her packmates waded around in the deeper stuff. It was a pretty quiet outing, and we didn't make many stops, so we got a bit further along the path than usual. No notable wildlife encounters today. There were a lot of skateboarders out. The pack mostly took that in stride, except Tozai did woof once when a group of three went by togethe

Tuesday Pack Activities (8/11/2026)
Adventure Pack Tozai and Yoshi joined Griff, Imogene, Racer, and Arlo for a hike at CU South today. Like yesterday, the cloud cover kept it tolerable despite the temperature in the low 90s F. Tozai stuck closer to the pack today, sniffing around with Yoshi, Imogene, and Griff. We hung out in the shade of a different tree than yesterday when the sun briefly came out today, since we were further around the loop. Imogene found a spot in the brush that interested her and she roll

Monday Pack Activities (8/10/2026)
Adventure Pack Alfie, Bear, Rey, Lou, and Tozai headed to CU South for a light trail hike today. Overcast skies made the hot temperature much more tolerable, and the pack took shelter in the shade of a tree when the sun briefly came out in the middle of our outing. Bear, Alfie, and Tozai got so caught up in chasing and wrestling each other that they wandered off around a bend through some thick brush at one point and didn't find their way back to the rest of us for several mi

Friday Pack Activities (8/7/2026)
Adventure Pack Lou, Carl, Tozai, Lucy, and Alfie walked Boulder Creek Path today. It didn't feel as hot as I was expecting, perhaps because the smoke in the air is diffusing the sunlight. The dogs got into the creek at Boulder Creek Park (what used to be called Central Park, where the library is). Carl got to mark the usual trees at Eben G. Fine Park on the way out but had to skip one on the way back because people were standing around it. The pack received some compliments o

Thursday Pack Activities (8/6/2026)
Adventure Pack Racer, Alfie, Rey, and Arlo headed to Boulder Creek Path for today's outing. Everyone enjoyed their dip in the creek, but Arlo especially, as usual. We encountered a hummingbird who lingered nearby for a couple minutes before zipping off, but it was so small that I couldn't get a good photo of it even though it wasn't very far off. There were a lot of goose droppings on the path by the kids' fishing pond, which Racer and Alfie showed a little too much interest

Wednesday Pack Activities (8/5/2026)
Adventure Pack Alfie, Tozai, Bear, and Nelly headed to CU South for a change of scenery today. It was nice and cool out, so being in the sun was nice, and the trails are pretty flat, so we weren't exerting ourselves too much in the smokey air. Everybody sniffed hello with a friendly dog who came up from behind us and mingled with the pack for a minute. There was a horse in the distance at one point, which none of the dogs took notice of. We mostly just kept up a steady, moder

Tuesday Pack Activities (8/4/2026)
Adventure Pack With a nice break in the heat, Racer, Imogene, and Arlo went for a mountain hike instead of sticking to Boulder Creek. Some hikers commented on how nicely behaved they all were as they politely pulled to the side of the trail with me so the other hikers could pass. A young boy among them stopped and asked permission to say hello, and the dogs all happily received pets from him. After that, they made friends with an Australian Shepherd on the Red Rocks Trail. Th
