Adventure Pack
Nelly attempted to cross the stream at the base of Saddle Rock Trail by walking along one of the two timbers that is laid across it. She got all four paws on, but then her back paws slipped and she found herself halfway standing in the water. At the point, she gave up the attempt and just waded across as gingerly as possible. While Nelly was working through that, Ruffers, Lou, and Tozai were enjoying lingering in the water for as long as they could before we continued on. Further up the mountain, Tozai had an outburst of energy similar to the one Rey had on the same part of the hike yesterday. On the way back, Nelly forewent the timbers and just picked her way across the water, sticking to the stepping stones that protruded as best as she could.
Variety Pack
Racer, Dylan, Carl, Alfie, Lumi, and Arlo headed to CU South for the afternoon. The boulders by the parking area were again a point of high interest, and we spent several minutes by them at the beginning of the walk as everyone thoroughly investigated them. We came across a curious Dachshund who was intent on saying hello to Carl. Carl was equally interested in greeting the fellow short guy. It appeared the cows had moooved on from the field right beside the path, and were no longer anywhere to be seen. It was cool enough that neither Lumi nor Dylan felt the need to lay in the water when we crossed the stream that Dylan stopped at the other day; however, Arlo took the opportunity to dunk himself down into it in a bow. After that, he leapt out with a playful attitude and then he and Alfie made some playful moves with each other right after. When the dogs were back in the packmobile, I noticed Racer chewing on something. She spit it out when confronted about it, but Lumi immediately snatched it up and swallowed it before I could even see what it was. Knowing Racer - and judging by the feel I got when I poked a finger in while instructing her to drop it - I strongly suspect it was a desiccated piece of poop she snagged from the trail sometime shortly before loading up.
