Rest In Peace, Dylan

Our beloved packmate Dylan is no longer with us. After having fought through throat cancer at age 8 to enjoy 6 more years full of love and adventures with the pack, he passed away with aggressive metastatic cancer and pneumonia last Thursday. When I first met Dylan and took him for a meet & greet stroll, he stopped in place as soon as we crossed the street from his house. After a long standoff, we finally got going, and when I returned with him and looked over the form, I laughed at his mom's answer to the question, "Does your pet have any conditions/problems to which I need to be alert?" to which she had replied, "nope, just stubborn." Sometimes when I left the packmobile to pick up or drop off one of his packmates while he was in the car, I would return to find him sitting in the driver's seat, where he seemed to think he belonged. Dylan always knew he was right. He liked to grumble at the other boys in the pack when they hopped into the car with him, to remind them to mind their manners, but he never hurt a fly. In fact, beetles and grasshoppers oddly seemed especially fond of hitching rides on his back when we were out on the trails. Aside from being in charge, he loved being in the water, rolling in snow and grass, greeting everyone he came across, and cuddling. He was a brave, strong boy who used to chase bears up trees during his younger days in Tahoe before he moved to Boulder and joined the pack. He never had occasion to do so with the pack, but I have little doubt he would have let any unruly bears know not to stand in our way. Dylan was a steadfast companion who emanated love and resolve through his very presence, and that presence will forever be missed.
