Adventure Pack
Racer was especially sniffy in Chautauqua Meadow this morning. The rest of the pack was happy to join her as she set a very pokey pace, making sure to check every inch in the grass beside the path. Arlo sniffed and marked a bit on his own, without taking direction from Griff all the time. Imogene got into a playful mood at the end of the hike and started poking at Racer. Racer made some dodges that seemed more out of annoyance than playfulness, so I had Imogene leave her alone. Arlo probably would have been more receptive, but Imogene was only interested in Racer today.
Variety Pack
It took a little while before I found a tennis ball for Carl to fetch at Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. Meanwhile, Tozai immediately headed off to make friends and Dylan poked along some distance behind us. When we got to the center of the park, where there were about half a dozen other dogs, Dylan was happy to sniff hello and make some new friends as well. Carl even greeted a couple other little dogs, and there was one shy dog who came out of his shell a little to run after Carl while Carl chased his tennis ball. In contrast to how pushy Tozai is with his packmates on hikes, he was actually very good about inviting other dogs at the park to play with him, without immediately tackling and chewing on them. There was one black Lab in particular whom he kept going up to, in order to bait her into a chase. He just stood in front of her, made a dodgy move, and then ran a few paces away, over and over, and even lay down in front of her a few times. It took a lot of persistence, but she eventually went on some big runs with him.
