Adventure Pack

Chautauqua was bustling with college students and their families. Nelly, Yoshi, Tozai, and Lou headed up Woods Quarry from Mesa Trail. Usually, that area is pretty desolate; but there were many other groups hiking the same route today. Everybody took a drink from the stream we crossed on the way up, and Lou did a quick belly dip. Nelly and Lou both grazed on grass, on the move as we hiked. Yoshi and Tozai stayed on leash, since the trails were so busy and their manners can still use some polishing - especially when they are more focused on wrestling and chasing each other than on their surroundings. We stopped briefly to say hello to our OSMP volunteer friend Rich at the trail head, on our way back down.

Variety Pack

Dylan, Milo, Alfie, Lumi, Yoshi, Buddy, Ruffers, and Carl all walked Goose Creek Greenway this afternoon - again with a hand from Jen - in an attempt to avoid the ticks we encountered yesterday along Bear Creek Greenway. Buddy did his best to find them, as he rolled all around in the grass at several points along the way; and I'm sorry to say he was successful. We checked the rest of the pack and didn't find any more. It's unfortunate that ticks have established themselves here in the foothills now, and are becoming so abundant. I never encountered any for more than a decade after moving here from the northeast. Several years ago, Dylan had one, and in the years since, I've gotten increasingly frequent reports from pack members who have found them. If your dog isn't already on some form of anti-parasitic treatment, it's probably time to start. In any case, the dogs enjoyed their stroll. Milo, Dylan, and Buddy all joined Lumi in lying on his favorite grassy hill along our route, while Alfie, Ruffers, Yoshi, and Carl sniffed around the area. Even Goose Creek Greenway was much busier than usual, and several passers-by admired today's sizeable pack.
