Adventure Pack
Griff, Arlo, Imogene, and Racer were happy to get to the shaded Bluebell-Mesa Trail after making their way up Chautauqua Trail today. Everyone took some water. Arlo was the thirstiest of the bunch, while Griff only barely wet his tongue. Racer and Imogene happily drank when offered but didn't nose at me for more like Arlo kept doing. For the short stretch of Bluebell Road that we covered on our way to Chautauqua Trail, Racer led the sniffing campaign as usual. A little further up the mountain, she and Arlo caught sight of a field mouse at the edge of the trail. They both perked up and strained at their leashes but didn't go crazy over it; Griff and Imogene were oblivious to the disturbance. Imogene didn't run around when she was off leash today. She just lingered behind and sniffed in the shade while Griff led the way, and Racer and Arlo trotted along at my sides.
Variety Pack
Tozai was more interested in the prairie dogs than usual today. They were out making some commotion when the pack first hopped out of the packmobile at the Valmont Park lot, and Tozai's first instinct was to try to run out to them. After having his charge interrupted, he kept his cool better and just watched them as we walked by. Alfie took note of them but didn't go crazy about them. I wonder why he is more tolerant of their presence than he is of squirrels and rabbits, whom he much more frequently leaps toward. Ruffers and Carl took no particular notice of the prairie dogs at all. After passing by most of the prairie dog activity, I thought I saw a skunk in the field out of the corner of my eye, running away from the path and into some brush. None of the dogs noticed it, and there was no skunky odor in the air to give it away. Poor Carl had an upset stomach and puked up some stomach acid when we were taking a pack photo.
