Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik, Rucksack, Roger Roger, and Griff walked the Boulder Creek Path together this morning. We didn't encounter any kids who asked to pet the dogs like yesterday, but everyone had a good time walking together and wading through the creek when we made a stop by the water. We passed some other dogs along the way, and the pack all trotted by calmly. There was one point when Griff stared into a parking lot to the side of the path and pulled a bit on the leash, but I couldn't discern what had caught his interest, and the other dogs didn't seem to take notice of anything. Variety Pack Roger Roger harassed his big brother Rucksack minimally at the park this afternoon. Griff go

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff, Colby, Sputnik, and Racer walked the Boulder Creek Path this morning. We made a stop in the creek as some people floated by on inner tubes. Racer wanted to head right out into the middle of the creek, where the people were, but I kept her at leash length from the bank. Some kids asked to say hello to the pack, and Sputnik and Racer were both more than happy to have their attention. Griff and Colby hung back a bit, and only got pets from a couple kids who were calmer and more patient. Griff left a very soft poop for me to pick up from among some very tall weeds today and I ended up getting some smeared on my shirtsleeve as I cleaned up after him, so I went without t

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita had a great time wiggling in the grass at the outset of our hike today. Meanwhile, Zoe and Ruffers enjoyed getting to know each other. Ruffers pawed at Zoe as she bounced all around her with playful exuberance. The streams around the Red Rocks Trails were all dried up today, so we headed back down to the Boulder Creek Path instead of going up the Anemone Trail. Everyone enjoyed a dip in Boulder Creek. A big, fluffy, black Shepherd mix came over to sniff hello with the pack. I had Sputnik at my side while the other dog was saying hello to everyone. He grumbled a couple times but responded well to gentle redirection, and didn't have any outbursts. We headed to E

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The stream that we pass on our way up the Anemone Trail was running as little more than a trickle today, so instead we took a rest in the shade and everyone had some water from the CamelBak. Griff wasn't that interested and turned away after a few laps, but Racer, Sputnik, and Colby were all happy to have a drink. After we made our way back down and crossed over toward the Red Rocks Trails, everyone got a chance to take a dip in the stream on the Sanitas-facing side of the mountain, which was running about as high as usual. Variety Pack Packmate Coco rejoined her friends for our trip to the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. She was very happy to see her old pal Rucksack, and

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Zoe and Sputnik were very interested in each other today. They've already hiked together a couple times, but only took a passing interest in each other. It seems like Zoe has been focusing on getting to know her knew packmates one at a time. She spent a lot of time sniffing Milo and following him around her first time out, she was all over Mamacita last time, and today she couldn't get enough of Sputnik. The two of them were nose-to-nose in the packmobile, before our hike. When we reached the mountaintop, they shared the moment by sniffing each other nose-to-nose again, while Rucksack and Mamacita looked out over the terrain. I wonder, who will Zoe take an interest in ne

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Mamacita wanted to sniff around a lot in the bushes along the dirt foot path beside Boulder Creek. We made our way along the creek slowly, while they investigated all the scents to be found. Rucksack and Zoe were more forward-focused and just wanted to keep moving. When we made our first stop at the creekside, Zoe hung out on the bank while the others all got wet. When we stopped at the water again later, Zoe waded in and spent a while in the water. The other dogs had returned to shore while Zoe was still wading around, but then Rucksack rejoined her in the water. Zoe climbed on rocks to match Rucksack's height as he hung out beside her. Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer is definitely starting to pay more attention to signals instead of charging all-out in every direction as soon as she gets going. She waited her turn - when I called her by name - to hop out of the packmobile, patiently letting Sputnik out ahead of her without any attempt to slip through. However, all that discipline evaporated when we approached Boulder Creek for a break along the way. Everyone was excited to get in, but Racer charged down the bank and into the water with reckless abandon, almost pulling me in with her. Griff, Colby, and Sputnik all enjoyed getting into the water as well, but they were thankfully a bit more composed in their approach. Colby was sur

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers was very excited to come out with her packmates again, after having a long break before she returned last week, and Sputnik greeted her in the packmobile with kisses. The pack walked along the Boulder Creek Path today. Ruby, Sputnik, and Rucksack kept pulling over to the side of the path to sniff around in the grass and bushes. Ruby was the one who really made the most of our stop in the creek today, as she lay down, stretched out, and rested with her head floating just above the water. The rest of the pack also enjoyed a dip, but nobody else got as soaked as Ruby - even Mamacita only hopped in and waded around briefly before getting back out. Variety Pack Zoey, Ru

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff and Colby raced each other through the brush this morning, while Racer and Sputnik looked on with excitement. When she wasn't busy chasing Griff around, Colby walked right alongside the rest of the pack. Griff wandered a bit more. He was very interested in sniffing at the end of an old, large-diameter pipe beside the trail. After seeing Griff's interest, Sputnik followed up by also giving the area a thorough sniff. Racer's pulling has gradually been growing more manageable, as she is starting to become more aware of sticking with her packmates. Variety Pack Isaac and Zoey spent lots of time in the pond at the CU South Campus trail loop this afternoon. Ruby and Mama

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruby joined Mamacita, Sputnik, and Rucksack on our hike this morning, and fit right in with the pack. Ruby was a little hesitant to drink from the CamelBak spout during our first water break, but she took to it more easily afterwards. Mamacita dug a patch in the dirt while we were hanging out in the shade during one break, and lied down in it to cool off. As has become her custom, she lingered in the stream for as long as possible when we made a stop there later on. Ruby stayed in the water with Mamacita just as long, while Sputnik and Rucksack were happy with a quick dunk. Variety Pack Milo, Griff, Ruby, and Zoey walked the Boulder Creek Path together this afternoon. We

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack gave Ruffers a lot of attention again on our hike today. The two of them burst out into some playful romping and chasing while we were taking a break at the stream. Sputnik really wanted to join in, and kept leaping along with them when they passed near by. Mamacita didn't care about her packmates' activity and just wanted to soak in the stream. Later in the hike, Rucksack and Ruffers went up to a family of hikers and both enjoyed being lavished with attention. Variety Pack Ruffers, Roger Roger, and Isaac headed to Wonderland Lake for their walk this afternoon. Everyone walked along very nicely in place, only stopping a couple times to relieve themselves. It was

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer, Sputnik, Colby and Griff headed up the Anemone and Red Rocks Trails this morning. Racer again started out by pulling all over the place, seemingly just for the sake of being as enthusiastically directionless as possible; but she settled in with the pack's pace surprisingly quickly today and ended up spending most of our trail time at my side, even without Griff's assistance. In fact, the whole pack was pretty mellow and stuck together nicely today. Even when Colby and Griff went off leash together, they didn't wander very far and they kept circling back to check in even without being called - except for one moment when Griff was interested in a bush off the side of t

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack After coming out for the Variety Pack Monday, Zoe had her first Adventure Pack hike today. She pulled on the leash quite a bit when we first set out at Eben G. Fine Park but eased into the pack's pace once we hit the trail. Our old pack member Ruffers returned from a long hiatus today and was very happy to see her friends! Sputnik was excited to see Ruffers, as well. Whenever we took a break along the way, he was quick to turn his attention to her and start licking her back. Zoe already started getting more used to drinking from the CamelBak spout today. Once she got going, she kept lapping up the water intently. When we passed a deep section of the stream on the side o

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff and Colby both returned to the pack today, alongside Sputnik and Racer. Griff wasn't as much help with keeping Racer boxed in, because he was pulling ahead a bit himself for much of our walk along the Boulder Creek Path. Colby was our most well behaved pack member today. She trotted along right at my side on a loose leash. Sputnik walked pretty well, also; he just wanted to pull over to the side to leave scent marks every so often. When we went to the creek, Everybody hopped right in. When Griff, Sputnik, and Colby were done and ready to get walking again, Racer was still enjoying splashing around in the water. By the end of our walk, Griff and Racer both finally

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita was the member of the pack most interested in staying in the water this morning. Sputnik and Rucksack were happy hopping in, wading about, and then hopping back out; but Mamacita wanted to spend as much time submerged as possible. After coming down from the mountain trails, we looped around Eben G. Fine Park, where there were lots of people and dogs taking advantage of another sunny, summer day. Variety Pack Another new pack member joined us for her first pack outing today: Zoe! Not to be confused with Labradoodle Zoey, Zoe is an adorable little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She was quick to hop in the packmobile and sniff hello with Sputnik and Mamacita, who bot

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack spent the hike off leash again this morning and did a fine job of sticking with the pack. Mamacita wasn't so resistant to hiking up the Anemone Trail today as she had been Monday. Everyone was very eager to get into the water the three times we passed the stream. Isaac was especially excited to jump in. He was the first one in on the way up. The next two times, Rucksack was leading the pack off leash and got into the water ahead of the others. We made a loop around Eben G. Fine Park after coming back down the mountain, and Sputnik made several stops to leave scent marks in the bushes there. Variety Pack Sputnik, Zoey, and Isaac walked around Wonderland Lake toge

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer, Sputnik, and Isaac walked along the Boulder Creek Path this morning. Everyone was happy to hop into the creek and wade through the water. We stopped at a rocky patch where Isaac couldn't find a good spot to lie down, so he just kept climbing back and forth over the boulders. Racer pulled quite a bit during the first half of the walk, but on the return leg she fell right into place and hardly pulled at all the entire rest of the way. I had tried to recruit Sputnik into assisting me with keeping Racer boxed in, like Griff had done last week, but Sputnik was too distracted by sniffing and peeing along the way. Variety Pack Coco joined Isaac and Zoey for a trip to the V

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer was very excited to get out again with her new packmates today. She, Isaac, and Sputnik enjoyed splashing around in the stream on our way up the Anemone Trail. Racer drank from the CamelBak like a natural, again. We didn't have Griff in the pack today to help keep Racer's pulling in check. She pulled quite a bit on the way up the mountain, but started to settle down and mostly stayed by my side for the descent. Sputnik got upset and growly about one dog we passed on the trail who was lunging and scrambling toward us as we went by. Racer and Zoey just ignored the other dog. We passed a few other, calmer dogs as well, and Sputnik didn't attempt to pick any fights wi

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack had his first off-leash hike after going MIA at the Chautauqua a little while back. He stuck close to the pack and was responsive whenever I called him back. Sputnik was feeling playful and chased Rucksack through the stream while Isaac and Mamacita just got into the water and chilled out. When we passed the stream again by the Mount Sanitas Trailhead, the water was running chest-deep for the dogs and everyone enjoyed a good, long soak. Variety Pack Isaac, Milo, Zoey, and Mamacita went to Wonderland Lake together this afternoon. Mamacita and Isaac were pretty tuckered out from their morning hike, and dragged behind a bit. Milo was full of energy when I first pick
