Tuesday Pack Activities

Variety Pack Sputnik joined Mamacita, Avo, and Rey for our walk around Wonderland Lake this afternoon. Mamacita and Avo each found a couple spots to wiggle on their backs in the grass along the way. They also both bristled at a passing truck that was towing a trailer. Two peas in a pod. Sputnik stopped to leave his mark on various trunks and tufts of grass. Rey, Mamacita, and Avo all stopped a few times each, as well - however, they weren't always interested in sniffing or marking anything; sometimes they just wanted to hang out for a moment.

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Riley and Sputnik greeted each other with a lot of kisses this morning. Ruffers got a few kisses from her packmates when we picked her up, as well; but they didn't go on and on like between Sputnik and Riley. Despite the heat, the cloud cover kept us relatively comfortable during our hike. Still, we spent a little while hanging out at the shaded stream that crosses the Gregory Canyon Trail. Shortly after starting our way back down, Ruffers sniffed hello with a passing dog, while Sputnik and Riley minded their manners nicely. Variety Pack We had a new member join the pack today: Lou! Lou is a very sweet female Pit Bull who was very excited to meet her new packmates. Rey w

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We saw a lot of other dogs on the trails today. Sputnik, Dylan, and Roger Roger all did a very good job of coming off to the side of the trail with me to let them pass. They all stayed calm as the other dogs went by, with their attention on me. Dylan and Roger Roger wandered down the ravine and into the creek at a few points along the way. We headed up the Gregory Canyon Trail instead of Crown Rock, so the pack had to scramble up some boulders and rock faces along the way, but everyone managed the obstacles without trouble. Variety Pack Storm clouds hovered overhead as we set out for our pack walk this afternoon. Upon assessing the spread, it seemed like South Boulder was

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack A bit of cloud cover rolled over just as we set out on the Baseline Trail this morning, so the dogs weren't panting too hard at the beginning of the hike. Just as the clouds started to pass, we reached the Gregory Canyon Trail Head, where there is ample shading from the trees. We headed up the Crown Rock Trail from there, with few encounters with other hikers. Griff refused water from the CamelBak the whole time, but Racer and Sputnik drank during a couple pit stops. The clouds rolled back in with a cool breeze just as we reach the Meadow Trail back to the Chautauqua Trail Head. Variety Pack Mamacita and Avo each flopped down in the grass at different points during our wal

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Dylan led the way and Ruffers brought up the rear, while Sputnik hiked along on leash with me up the Gregory Canyon and Crown Rock Trails. Dylan headed down to the stream running through Gregory Canyon a few times. By the time we made it back down the mountain, everyone just wanted to lie in the shade of a big tree at Chautauqua Park, to cool off and catch their breaths. I was also happy to oblige. Variety Pack Poppy, Rey, and Zoey hopped into Boulder Creek a couple times during our walk this afternoon. Zoey's packmates reacted the same was as I did when she started shaking off while in the water next to them, even though they were already wet from getting in the water the

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer, Sputnik, and Griff stopped at the creek by the Gregory Canyon Trail Head to splash around a bit before we made our way up the trail. After a good hike, they all got to hop in the creek again, where it crosses the trail. Griff made a few trips off the main path to go down into the ravine and get his paws wet, as well. Variety Pack Avo and Rey were very interested in getting into Boulder Creek this afternoon. They kept pulling toward at as we walked the dirt footpath alongside it. I took the hint, and brought them down to the water as soon as we found a path down that wasn't too steep. For how adamant they were about wanting to go to the Creek, they didn't spend much

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack A grasshopper decided to hitch a ride on Ruffers' back for a short while along the Baseline Trail this morning. None of the pack took notice of our little buddy. We headed up Gregory Canyon, which was less traveled today than it had been last week. Riley and Sputnik were cool and collected when we encountered other dogs on the trail; Ruffers was in a friendly mood, and stalled to sniff a friendly hello with one dog. Variety Pack Zoey, Poppy, and Rey walked around Wonderland Lake this afternoon. It was warm and sunny, but pretty comfortably so. Zoey initiated a few sniff breaks along the way, usually when she wanted to pee on something. Poppy and Rey were happy to check o

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Dylan and Roger Roger enjoyed some off leash time together at the Gregory Canyon and Crown Rock Trails this morning, while Racer and Sputnik were happy to follow along on leash with me. There was one stretch of the Crown Rock Trail that smelled distinctly of skunk on our way back down. I was worried that someone in the pack got tagged. Even though Dylan and Roger Roger were both in sight throughout, they wandered around one open area of the trail when we paused there for a little break. Thankfully, the odor faded as we made our way back down to Gregory Canyon. Variety Pack Ruffers, Zoey, Mamacita, Riley, and Poppy all headed to the Boulder Creek Path this afternoon, after

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The Baseline and Gregory Canyon trails were especially busy today, so we pulled off to the side many times, to give the other hikers space to pass by the pack. Racer likes climbing on top of nearby boulders whenever we take a break beside the trail. Sputnik and Griff let her be queen of the hill, and never try to dethrone her from her perch, or even shoulder in next to her. It was a beautiful morning with mild weather, which resulted in far less heavy panting than the packs have been accustomed to lately. Griff again enjoyed roaming off leash for much of the hike, once we got a little way up Gregory Canyon. Variety Pack Early on in this afternoon's walk along the Boulder C

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Dylan was back with the pack today, after a hiatus to recover from an injury that had been bothering him. He was quick to take up his spot in the driver's seat as soon as he hopped into the packmobile this morning, and repeated this every time I got out of the car to pick up or drop off another dog. Our hike started slowly, as Dylan stopped a few times and would only continue if we headed straight for the nearest shade. Ruffers seemed to be on the same page as Dylan regarding hanging out in the cool shade. Sputnik was more aimless in his wandering from the path, as he just seemed to head to wherever there was a good spot to leave a scent mark. Once we were a little way up

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The restrictions on commercial dog walking permits have eased a bit, so Griff was able to enjoy some off-leash time at Gregory Canyon today! He was very happy to run down side paths along the way, but stayed close by and came back promptly whenever I called him over to let other hikers pass by, so he stayed off leash for most of the hike. Racer and Sputnik stayed on their leashes with me. Griff made friends with an Australian Cattle Dog when we stopped at the stream, up Gregory Canyon. Racer and Sputnik stayed calm as they got their paws wet in the stream. Variety Pack Avo, Rey, and Sputnik were all very eager to hop into Boulder Creek during our walk this afternoon. Afte

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers and Sputnik took their time trekking along the Baseline Trail and up Gregory Canyon. We paused a lot in shaded spots for short water breaks, to let other hikers pass by, or because the pair of them wanted to sniff around in the tall grass beside the trail. Variety Pack Poppy has joined the Monday Variety Pack, and made the most of her time. She, Sputnik, Rey, and Zoey sniffed around numerous tree trunks and waded through tall grass as we walked the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. When we stopped to hang out in the shade of a tree beside the path, Poppy wiggled around in the grass while her packmates just lounged and panted. Rey, Zoey, and Sputnik were all eager to

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Roger Roger were very happy to reach the spot along the Gregory Canyon Trail where it crosses a stream. We hung out in a shady spot along the shallow water for several minutes, to cool off before heading back. As soon as we started back down, I noticed a big snake crossing the trail, a few meters ahead of us. It's interesting how the dogs rarely seem to take notice of snakes, whereas they are often more attuned to other wildlife than I am. Sputnik and Roger Roger didn't seem to have a clue as to why we stood waiting in the middle of the trail for another minute before continuing the return leg of our hike. Variety Pack Poppy, Sputnik, and Zoey all eagerly hoppe

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff, Sputnik, and Racer headed up the Gregory Canyon Trail together, this morning, after slowly working their way through all the scents to be smelled along the Baseline Trail. With a less intense ascent, Griff returned to his usual habit of passing when offered water. Racer and Sputnik, on the other hand, drank some water at every chance they got. Variety Pack Riley, Avo, and Mamacita were all a bit jumpy about the bikers and other dogs we came across along the Boulder Creek Path this morning. After Mamacita and Avo barked at a couple passing bikes, we headed to the dirt path that runs closer to the Creek. There, we encountered occasional dogs and had to step off to the

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers and Sputnik headed up the Gregory Canyon Trail this morning, where there was plenty of shade and a gentle incline. The narrow trail was relatively busy, so we frequently stepped off along side trails to let other hikers pass. Variety Pack Poppy was very happy to take advantage of our break at Central Park along the Boulder Creek Path, by wiggling around in the grass. Rey hovered over her, seemingly interested in joining in the fun, but she didn't find an opening and ended up just backing off and letting Poppy do her thing. Zoey and Sputnik made no attempts to get into the mix. Everyone stopped to sniff around many bushes and tree trunks along the way.

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack meandered through the brush a lot as we made our way along the Baseline Trail this morning. At one point, Racer headed into the shade of a large bush and hung out there while Sputnik and Griff investigated the area. Panting wasn't as heavy today, given the cooler weather, but everyone still took some water when we reached the vantage point on the Amphitheater Trail. Variety Pack Mamacita and Avo both enjoyed wiggling in the grass a lot during our walk along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Avo wanted to turn the wiggling into a play session, but Mamacita didn't take the bait. Avo still tried by jumping in front of Mamacita before flopping onto her side, but Mam

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Wind whistled through the mountain treetops, even though there was no breeze to be felt at ground level. Ruffers, Sputnik, and Riley made their way down the mountainside at a leisurely pace, after a short water break at the peak of their hike. Ruffers had looked out over the vista while Riley and Sputnik were focused on me, offering the water. Variety Pack Zoey, Sputnik, and Rey sniffed around at Martin Park, each heading off in their own direction, as their noses commanded. Eventually, they all got on the same page and started walking the Bear Creek Path together. We came by one very ornery little dog who barked as he went by, which got Rey and Sputnik both riled up enoug

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There were a lot of hikers on the Amphitheater Trail today, both canine and human. Roger Roger and Sputnik obliged when I directed them to the side of the trail to let others pass. We took a lot of short breaks in the shade throughout our hike. The heat kept us from pushing our pace. Rather than ascending all the way to the vantage point, we turned back a bit early and sauntered through Chautauqua Park. Variety Pack During one of out breaks in the shade, Poppy flopped down and wiggled all around in the grass, then popped up and jumped everywhere, then flopped back down, and repeated this process a few times. Zoey and Ruffers did not have the energy to engage with Poppy's

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack I wasn't sure we would make it to the vantage point, given the pack's leisurely pace at the outset of the hike. We made a steady ascent after that, however, and made it all the way up. After some panting and some drinking of water, we made our way back. We passed a deer who was hiding in a ditch not 10 yards from the trail through the Chautauqua Meadow, and it gave all of us a startle when it hopped to life at our passing. It went up the opposite bank and stared at us until we moved on. Variety Pack Mamacita was all about wiggling in the grass today. She made several stops for no other reason but that. At first, Riley jumped all around her with shared enthusiasm. Howeve

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Ruffers didn't make it as far up the mountain as the packs have the past couple days. They instead moseyed along and spent a lot of time sniffing around and even backtracking to various spots after we passed them. Like Griff yesterday, Ruffers took a pass on water from the CamelBak at first, but later drank thirstily. Variety Pack Poppy, Rey, and Zoey got in a good soak at Boulder Creek during our walk this afternoon. The cloud cover kept it feeling cooler than the past couple days, but they were all still very happy to hop in the Creek and wade about. The family of geese at the Kids' Fishing Pond were crossing the sidewalk just as we approached today. Rey wat
