    Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Dylan moved pretty slowly on the trails in the heat today. Avo still had energy to run and explore off the trail a bit. A couple hikers guessed that Sputnik and Dylan were older than Avo, noting the difference in energy levels. I had her on leash when we passed the area where she found a deer leg yesterday. The leg was no longer on the trail, but there were some bone splinters at the edge of the trail. She and Dylan both sniffed at them as we walke

Adventure Pack Racer was experiencing digestive troubles this morning, so we made frequent stops early on. She seemed to have it out of her system by the end of the walk, at least for the time being. Griff and Sputnik led the way together as we kept to flatter trails at the Chautauqua. Carl was easily distracted by the other dogs we saw along the way. Variety Pack Mamacita, Avo, and Riley headed down the Boulder Creek Path this afternoon. Mamacita set a slow pace for the pack

Adventure Pack Dylan and Avo rolled in the grass at Chautauqua Park before we headed up the trail this morning. Ruffers also lay down by her packmates, but without any goofy antics. Later on, Avo was curious about some magpies hanging out on the trail, and ran ahead to check them out; of course, they all took flight upon her approach and left her standing alone on the trail in their wake. Sputnik's interest was piqued when he saw Avo run ahead, and he trotted up to join her.

Adventure Pack Carl actually lingered behind quite a bit on the trails today, as he was busy sniffing around in the wet blades of grass in the meadow at the Chautauqua. Griff still led the way as usual. Even though it was cool and cloudy, and we took an easy pace, Sputnik and Racer were happy to drink water whenever I offered it. Variety Pack Milo and Petie had some fun running around with the other dogs at the Valmont Dog Park today. Milo especially enjoyed a big Husky mix.

Adventure Pack Sputnik mostly stuck by my side while Dylan led the way up the mountain at the Chautauqua. Once we were on level ground, Sputnik caught up to Dylan. Dylan found a snowy patch on the trail and wiggled around on his back in it. After he was done, Avo sniffed around the area for a minute and decided not to partake like Dylan had done. On our way back along the Meadow Trail, Avo snatch up a dead rat that was lying in the middle of the path. I hooked her rear legs w

Adventure Pack Carl was all about grazing on grass again today. Racer also partook, but Griff wasn't as interested as he was Tuesday. Wind gusts kicked up a few times during the hike, and I lost my hat once. The pack waded into the field of tall grass with me to retrieve it.

Adventure Pack Dylan, Ruffers, and Avo took their time sniffing along the edge of the trail on our way up the mountain today. We passed a field that was absolutely full of caterpillar cocoons Avo trotted off to explore that field a bit, but she didn't have the energy to do the kinds of sprints she was doing a couple weeks ago. Dylan and Ruffers stuck to the beaten path for the entire hike. Variety Pack The pack started off their walk with a dip in Boulder Creek. Zoey, Carl, a

Adventure Pack Griff, Carl, and Racer did a lot of sniffing along the Baseline Trail at the Chautauqua this morning. After heading up the mountain, they all started ravenously munching on grass, and another hiker commented on their appetites. Variety Pack Milo and Petie had some fun in a kiddie pool at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. We saw a pair of Belgian Malinois, in whom Petie took a particular interest, and they ran around together a bit. Milo joined in to make som

Adventure Pack Avo didn't run around as much when she was off leash today, and she kept lying down in the middle of the trail to cool off when we reached shaded patches. Ruffers and Dylan stayed on their feet, but also lingered in the shade. Variety Pack There weren't as many prairie dogs out chirping today along the Goose Creek Greenway, so the pack wasn't distracted as we walked. Rey's nose drew her off the path and into the grass one time. Carl and Lou were quick to join h

Adventure Pack Dylan and Sputnik took their time poking along the trail and sniffing in the grass as we headed up the Chautauqua Trail this morning. It was warm put pretty breezy out. We eventually started moving at a more steady pace, especially when we were heading back downhill. We walked through the Chautauqua Park at the end of the hike, and I noticed signs for pesticide application that is taking place next week, so we won't be walking through that field for a little wh
