    Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Dylan and Sputnik stuck pretty close together during our hike at Settler's Park. Dylan wallowed in the Farmer's Ditch, as usual, while Sputnik just waded. When Dylan was done getting soaked, he walked over and gave me a lick on the chin, to let me know he was ready to go. Sputnik went on leash again as we approached the red rocks formation. Still, he tried to double back just after we passed by a group of kids there. I suspect the wind consistently blows a

Adventure Pack Sputnik, Carl, and Griff headed down the Boulder Creek Path this morning. We saw a pair of Malamutes early on that Carl and Sputnik both took note of. Carl pulled at the leash a bit as they went by. Sputnik, who hasn't grumbled about another dog in many months, actually growled at them. Carl got a bit excited at the sight of other dogs we passed during our walk, but Sputnik wasn't bothered by any others after the pair of Malamutes. Griff was a calm and ple

Adventure Pack Ruffers and Sputnik took longer breaks in the shade as we hiked up and down the mountain at Settler's Park this morning. I hooked them both up on leashes when we reached the Red Rocks formation, to avoid any sneaking over to snatch food from picnicking children. Later on, we encountered a long line of kids with inner tubes making their way up the Boulder Creek Path. Several commented on how much they liked the dogs. Variety Pack There was still a steady stre

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Griff had a buddy outing today, with just the two of them. Griff roamed a bit from time to time, then would come bounding back to me and Sputnik. Sputnik kept a slow and steady pace. He again doubled back around the Red Rocks formation, to check in with a couple kids and see if they had any food to offer. Sadly for him, they were empty handed, but he still lingered there for a minute until they kindly helped direct him back to me and Griff. Vari

Adventure Pack There was a troop of summer camp kids on the Red Rocks when we reached the top of the mountain. After we passed by them, Sputnik slyly doubled back when I wasn't looking. I caught him sniffing amidst a group of three kids eating their lunches. I warned the kids that he wanted to steal their food. One boy directly addressed Sputnik, telling him, "Sorry, I only have vegetables." I pulled Sputnik away just in time to keep him from stealing a sandwich out of a

Adventure Pack Dylan lingered at the fork again today, but once it was clear that we were going to the top, he caught up and then passed the rest of us, to lead the rest of the way up. I heard some kids on the red rocks start to sing, "Who let the dogs out? Who! Who! Who!" as we approached the top of the mountain. Sputnik, Riley, and Dylan all happily sat with me in a nook on the shaded side of the rocks for a little bit before heading back down. We only did one loop up, s

Adventure Pack With the sun beating down and the temperature already in the upper 80's when we set out this morning, I decided to forego the mountain and just stick to the Boulder Creek Path with the boys. After a long stop in the water early on, we took a very easy pace down the path and back. Sputnik sniffed out a couple discarded sandwich rolls at different points along the way. I got him away from one before he had a chance to grab it, but he snagged a bite off the end

Adventure Pack Sputnik seemed back to a normal energy level for today's hike. Carl and Dylan led the way up to the Farmer's Ditch. Some OSMP volunteers were amused at Dylan's way of lying down in relatively deep water to get his whole body soaked. Sputnik and Ruffers were on leash with me, but followed their packmates into the water once we caught up. A short while later, Carl was distracted by some squawking magpies, and kept going back and forth between a couple trees,

Adventure Pack We took a slightly slower pace today than yesterday, as Sputnik took his time following behind. Griff scouted ahead, as usual. Carl wanted to run ahead with Griff, but he instead got some practice heeling with distractions. He was all over the trail at the beginning of our hike, following his nose after every curiosity; but he settled down and walked in place with me better after a little while. We continued down along Boulder Creek, where the trees offered

Adventure Pack Riley, Ruffers, and Sputnik all waded through the Farmer's Ditch on our way up to the Red Rocks at Settler's Park this morning. We took an easier pace up the mountain and only did one loop, rather than the two loops we have usually been doing. After that, we strolled along Boulder Creek. The dogs got in for another soak, and Riley was so eager that she nearly dragged me in with her as we navigated the slope of the bank down to the water. Variety Pack Carl an
