    Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik, Griff, Carl, and Racer made pretty good time up Saddle Rock Trail after our obligatory rest stop at the stream at Gregory Canyon. Everyone but Griff took some water from the CamelBak along the way. Sputnik tried to steal a sandwich out of a kid's lunchbox when we passed through a group that were taking their lunch in the middle of the trail, but I caught him just in time. The others were less brash, but watched the kids with hopeful, hungry eyes unt

Adventure Pack Dylan and Sputnik took it easy in the heat at the Chautauqua this morning, after enjoying a full day out with the packs yesterday. Dylan led the way over mostly flat terrain, with Sputnik following close behind. We took our time, as the dogs leisurely sniffed their way down the trail. Variety Pack We stopped at the water early on in our walk along the Boulder Creek Path, this afternoon. I was surprised when Lizzo, Imogene, Rey, Mamacita, Carl, and Zoey all j

Adventure Pack Dylan, Sputnik, and Griff sniffed along the Baseline Trail en route to the stream at the Gregory Canyon Trail Head. At the stream, Griff only stepped in for a quick splash before crossing to the other side and sniffing around in the brush. Dylan and Sputnik both lingered in the water a bit longer, and Dylan of course lay down to get his belly soaked. When we reach the point where the trail touches the stream again, further up the mountain, Dylan had to work

Adventure Pack After Riley returning home yesterday, she and Gidget got to see each other for this morning's pack hike. They greeted each other with affectionate nuzzles and kisses before we headed to the Chautauqua. The cool, overcast weather made it a manageable excursion for our short-snouted pack member, Blu. We crisscrossed the Chautauqua Meadow and Park, staying on relatively level terrain. Riley got a bit worked up about a couple dogs we passed along the way. Sput

Adventure Pack With the slightly cooler weather and the overcast skies, the pack made it a bit further up the mountain today than the rest of the week. Still, we took a moderate pace and lingered at the water when we passed it. Dylan lay in the stream in three different positions to get well-soaked before our ascent. He and Sputnik sometimes led the way together, and other times fell behind to sniff around a bit and catch their breaths. Lizzo did a fine job keeping up wit

Morning Pack Gidget, Blu, Riley, and Lizzo went for a walk to Wonderland Lake this morning, before the day's heat set in. Lizzo and Riley just met for the first time yesterday. Riley was a little stiff around Lizzo, while Lizzo was wiggling and flailing around, but they got more used to each as they walked together. We encountered a couple rabbits along the way. The dogs perked up at the sightings - especially Blu - but they maintained composure as the rabbits hopped away

Adventure Pack The cascade at the crossing to the Saddle Rock Trail is more of a gentle spill now. Riley still went for it, but not with the gusto she did when it was running faster. Dylan lay down in the water, as usual, to make sure he got his belly wet. Sputnik and Ruffers just poked around in the water. The overcast weather kept the sun from beating down on us, and Dylan led the way for most of the hike today. Still, the humidity made it feel hot even in the shade,

Adventure Pack I was expecting Racer to chomp at the water cascading over the rock where we cross the stream at Gregory Canyon - like Riley has been doing - but she surprised me by just wading around in the water a bit, without any particular agenda. Carl joined Griff in exploring the creek bank, downstream from our crossing. On the way down, the two of them had enough energy left to race each other down the trail, then back up past me, Racer, and Sputnik; then they raced e

Adventure Pack Riley has back at the cascade in the stream at Gregory Canyon this morning, chomping at water as it spilled over the rocks. Sputnik was less wary of wading into the water today, and hung out in the middle of the stream while Riley did her thing. Griff was in and out, then started exploring along the well-shaded bank. Ruffers was on the same page as Sputnik, as she hung out in the middle of the stream until I decided it was time to move on. We didn't move ve

Adventure Pack Griff wandered around the banks of the stream at Gregory Canyon, poking around in the grass and bushes there. Riley entertained herself by chomping at the water cascading over some boulders. Dylan got as much of his body wet as he could. Sputnik stuck to the shallows, and minded his footing very carefully when crossing. Three different hikers stopped to ask me for directions today, so it seems a lot of people were out exploring the Chautauqua for the first
