Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack After sniffing hello with a passing dog who was on leash, Griff had a huge burst of playful energy and sprinted around in big loops through the brush and across the trail. I suspect he intended to draw his new friend into a game of chase - not realizing that the other dogs was leashed and not able to partake. Coco ran along with him a bit, but only for brief spurts when he passed by near to her. Later on in the hike, Sputnik started licking Colby's ears. He then placed a paw on her back and dropped into a play bow. He followed this by rearing up on his hind legs and flailing his front legs at her in a very flirtatious manner. He repeated this sequence once more a few min

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack and Coco roamed through the snow together while Mamacita and Sputnik hiked along at my side. Coco and Rucksack ran around a bit with a young, brindle-coated dog at one point. Later on, Rucksack stole a stick from a dog we passed when the other dog dropped it. Sputnik wanted to stop and sniff lots of spots along the way. Mamacita got very worked up seeing a postal truck when we returned to the trail head. Variety Pack Thompson can't get enough of the snow on our walks. He spent much of his time ambling through it and nibbling at it while Stella, Coco, and I walked along the path beside him. Stella flopped down for a few wiggles in the snow along the way. Coco st

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita got to hop around with her packmates for a bit as they played along the trail and stuck close-by enough that she could get in on the fun while still being on her leash. Sputnik was a little pushy throwing his weight around but Coco didn't let him get away with it and stood her ground until he started respecting her space. His moves eventually switched from launching himself at Coco to making playful hops and dodges at a short distance to entice Coco into coming after him. Later on in the hike, we came across a trio of Labradoodles. One was especially friendly and playful. Rucksack and Coco both enjoyed running up and down the trail with him. Variety Pack Thompson

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Coco was the one to discover a stick of interest today. She and Griff danced around it for a minute before Griff snatched it up and then carried it with him as he ran up and down the trail. Earlier on, Sputnik and Griff had a fun time running around together. Colby had some time off leash along with her packmates but was more interested in sniffing than playing. Variety Pack Isaac's only follower today was Roger Roger. Ruffers kept an eye on Roger Roger and schooled him when he started barking in Isaac's ear. At one point, Roger Roger and Zoey both started barking at me when I was holding onto a ball. I had them both sit and settle down before throwing it for them. We r

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik discovered a stick along the side of the trail this morning and spent a while sniffing and poking around it. After thoroughly checking it out, Sputnik left it behind and Rucksack swiftly scooped it up and then carried it along for the rest of the hike. Mamacita was in a better mood today and hopped around playfully in the snow as we went. Ruffers ran around with Rucksack and Sputnik, and she was eager to make friends with all the dogs we passed along the way. At one point, she flopped down in the snow for a good wiggle. Variety Pack Thompson and Zoey both thoroughly enjoyed chomping on snow beside the path we walked this afternoon. Coco and Yoda sniffed around in

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Coco went off the leash with Griff today and they had a blast running around together and greeting other dogs on the trail. One young German Shepherd was especially friendly and playful and they all had fun. Colby and Sputnik were hit-or-miss with greeting other dogs today. Colby was mostly pleasant but didn't react well to the rambunctious German Shepherd that her packmates were playing with. Sputnik didn't go out of his way to be rude to any of the dogs we passed, but he did give a high-pitched groan of uneasiness a few times when dogs doubled back and started to approach from behind him. Variety Pack Zoey, Thompson, and Ruffers all spent some time sniffing around the ol

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack was very eager to get off the leash and go for a run. Sputnik joined him when there were no other dogs on the trail around us and the two of them raced up and down the trail together. Coco wanted to join her packmates in their races but I kept her on leash since it was her first day back with the pack after breaking her toe a few weeks ago, and she still has it wrapped up. Mamacita just trotted along at my side. She is still getting over the shaken nerves from the loud whistle we encountered last week, and was a little hesitant to exit the car again today. We will be heading to a different trail system soon and hopefully her hesitations won't carry over to a diff

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure pack Mamacita was hesitant to hop out of the car again today, but again seemed to get over it pretty quickly once we got moving. Rucksack found a tennis ball along the trail today and kept it all the way back to the trail head. He dropped it every so often to sniff around in the ditches, but always reclaimed it before catching up with the rest of us. Sputnik got to explore off leash with Rucksack for a bit. He didn't make any attempts to steal Rucksack's ball, but he did sniff curiously at the ball while Rucksack held it in his mouth. Variety Pack Thompson, Zoey, and Stella all took great interest in a tree beside the Boulder Creek Path at Eben G. Fine Park this afternoon. Mam

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff had a blast running around and greeting all the dogs on the trails when we first set out this morning. Sputnik mostly kept calm while Colby and Mamacita sniffed hello with the dogs who came up to us, but he did start to growl a bit at one dog who lingered and stared at him a little too long. After passing a lot of dogs, the trails were empty for a while, so Sputnik and Colby got to run around off leash with Griff. Sputnik and Griff played a bit, but Colby quickly turned to sniffing around in the brush. Variety Pack Today was very similar to Tuesday, with Isaac playing fetch while Roger Roger and another dog followed him, and Ruffers kept an eye on Roger Roger to schoo

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers and Sputnik explored the trails off leash together this morning while Mamacita hiked along at my side. They opted to sniff around rather than chase or wrestle. Mamacita is still getting over her discomfort with the dog whistle she heard last week. She hopped out of the car without hesitating today but when we started to head toward the trail from the parking lot, she stopped in place and started shaking. A little encouragement saw her moving again and then she seemed fine for the rest of the hike. Variety Pack Thompson and Zoey both enjoyed munching on the remaining snow patches in the park by the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Mamacita and Roger Roger hung out w

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Colby and Sputnik always greet each other in the packmobile with a flurry of kisses. Being the two who are most uneasy and reactive among the pack when greeting unfamiliar dogs, it seems they feel the need to reassure each other of their familiarity through this outpouring of affection. We had a long stretch of trail without other dogs this morning, so the two of them got to run around along with Zoey and Griff. There was a bit of chasing, but the dogs mostly just moved together as a pack while they sniffed around. Variety Pack Isaac quickly gained a follower in a Rottweiler mix whom chased him as he chased tennis balls. Roger Roger also decided that chasing Isaac was the

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Stella donned her doggie coat to brave the elements with packmates Sputnik, Mamacita, and Rucksack this morning. On the trails, Rucksack and Sputnik had a blast chasing each other through fields of snow while Mamacita trotted along at my side and Stella brought up the rear. Rucksack found a small stick later on in the hike and carried it the rest of the way back to the trail head.

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita was hesitant to get out of the car at the CU South Campus trails this morning. I suspect she was remembering the high-pitched whistle that another hiker used Wednesday and she didn't want to encounter it again. After we got moving she started to relax. Rucksack and Zoey raced around with each other, and that brought out some playful leaps and dodges from Mamacita when they passed by us. Sputnik got to run around with the Labradoodles. At first, he was being pushy and he came back on the leash for a bit. When I let him off again, he played the rabbit and let Rucksack and Zoey pursue him. Meanwhile, Stella and Mamacita trotted along at my side. It was chilly whe

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff made some playful dodges with the first couple dogs we saw at the trailhead this morning. Colby also made a move but I couldn't quite tell if she was being playful or threatening. I think it was a bit of both, and that she wanted to play but also wanted to get the message across not to make the wrong move. Sputnik didn't make any play moves, and started to grumble a bit when one of the dogs hopping around with Griff turned attention toward him. We didn't interact with any other dogs for the rest of the hike, and just trotted along the trails while I braced myself against the unexpectedly bitter gusts of wind. Variety Pack We walked the Boulder Creek Path and kept to

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers was busy making friends along the trail this morning. Sputnik, on the other hand, was feeling ornery and sent off the dogs who came up to greet him by returning their gesture with growls. However, there was one black Lab puppy with whom he was civil as he and his packmates sniffed hello. Early on in our hike, another person walking her dogs used a whistle to call them to her, which put Mamacita on edge. She eventually settled down a bit, but when we made it back to the parking lot she was eager to hop in the car and get out of there. Variety Pack There were a lot of ducks on Boulder Creek this afternoon. When we stopped along the way for a photo, Zoey stared inten

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We passed several dogs early on in our hike but then we came across a long, empty stretch of trail so I let Sputnik and Colby off along with Ruffers and Griff. Everyone had fun running through the fields beside the trail. After a running a few big loops with her packmates, Colby's attentions turned toward her nose and she decided to forego chases in favor of investigating scents. Meanwhile, Sputnik, Griff, and Ruffers were all absolutely brimming with energy and barely took a break from their play. Variety Pack Isaac is recovering from a cracked paw and had to take it easy today so I walked him around the park on a leash. He still found a tennis ball to carry along and he

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack's side seems to be healing well and he was full of energy this morning as he raced up and down the trails along with Ruffers. Ruffers was more than happy to give Rucksack a good run, and when he stopped she would playfully gnaw on his legs to get him going again. Mamacita jumped around in place while she watched her packmates get the lead out. At one point, Ruffers came over and wrestled around with Sputnik a bit. Variety Pack Thompson, Ruffers, and Stella walked the Boulder Creek Path together this afternoon. Thompson wanted to veer off to the side of the path every so often to sniff around and leave a scent mark. Ruffers and Stella weren't a demanding, but ther

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita was very happy to greet Griff in the packmobile when we picked him up this morning. Griff was full of energy on the trails and raced all around. Rucksack ran alongside him for a bit and then Sputnik had a turn. Griff and Sputnik really got each other going as they bounded up and down hills and over streams in pursuit of one another. I can't quite trust Mamacita to be off leash so she stayed with me, but she was surprisingly calm while watching her packmates run around as she trotted along at my side. Variety Pack Today it was Cooper who led the way in marking spots along the Boulder Creek Path, while Thompson, Ruffers, and Stella were all interested in following u

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We headed back to the Bear Creek Greenway this morning and saw a few dogs along the way. Sputnik and Cooper wanted to pull over to pee frequently. Griff and Colby occasionally checked out the spots their packmates marked but were far less driven about it. At one point in our walk, another dog was following a short distance behind us. Sputnik and Colby both kept checking over their shoulders until we eventually pulled over to let them pass by. Cooper hadn't taken notice of them when they were behind us but he whined when they passed. Griff was nonchalant about our shadow the whole time. Variety Pack Ruffers and Zoey were quick to find friends at the dog park this afternoo

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Roger Roger and Ruffers had a great time racing around the trails with each other at CU South Campus this morning. Rucksack whined as he watched them because he wanted to join the pursuit, but he is still healing from his stick encounter last week. Mamacita and Sputnik both made some bows and lunges when their packmates ran by us as we hiked. Variety Pack Cooper, Ruffers, Stella, Zoey, and Thompson had a nice walk along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Thompson wanted to sniff out lots of spots to leave scent marks along the way, and Cooper followed up behind him every time. Zoey found a small stick along the way and chewed on it for a few minutes while Ruffers grabbed
