Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack found a stick along the trail this morning. He played keep-away from Ruffers and the two of them had a great time running through the snow together. Mamacita and Sputnik got pretty excited watching their packmates romp, and hopped around whenever they came near. After their play, Rucksack found a bigger, heavier log to carry and brought it along with the focus of a dog with a job. Later on, Rucksack and Ruffers switched chasing roles with Rucksack following on Ruffers' heels, though Ruffers didn't have a stick. Variety Pack Milo, Zoey, Roger Roger, Rey, Zoe, and Avo all had a blast at the park this afternoon! Zoe made friends with another little dog and got him t

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Despite the sunny skies and warming temperatures, the Chautauqua was still pretty empty. Sputnik, Racer, Griff, and Colby enjoyed hiking the Mesa Trail and sniffing at various spots along the way. Racer chomped on some snow from a snowbank on a north-facing hillside as we headed up to the mesa. Colby was a bit wary of a hiker we passed, who then followed some distance behind us. There was a point on our return leg when Racer became alert and started staring off into the wooded field beside the trail. I followed her gaze but didn't pick up on whatever had caught her attention. None of the other pack members did, either. Variety Pack Before heading to the park, Rey wrestle

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack found a lot of interesting spots to sniff along the trail this morning. There were many times when Sputnik, Mamacita, and Roger Roger all homed in on the same square foot. Rucksack would then take notice of his packmates' interest and join in the investigation. There was one spot that Roger Roger liked so much, he flopped down in the snow and started wiggling around on his back. Variety Pack Zoey, Zoe, Rey, and Griff all had fun chasing each other around at the house before we set out for our walk around Wonderland Lake this afternoon. The chaotic play energy carried on in Rey and little Zoe for a while. They pulled at their leashes and their attentions were scat

Friday Pack Activities

Boarding Pack Little Zoe, Oliver, Clover, and Monarch headed out for a walk to Wonderland Lake together this morning. Oliver and Zoe were sporting sweater and fleece respectively to keep them from getting too cold. Monarch and Clover's natural coats were plenty warm enough to keep them comfortable. We had a very pleasant walk and encountered a few other neighborhood dogs out for a morning jaunt. Adventure Pack The snowy fog that blanketed the Chautauqua this morning made for a very tranquil hike. The peaceful scene was occasionally interrupted by Roger Roger's best attempts to annoy Rucksack by chewing at his legs and barking in his ear. Meanwhile, Sputnik and Mamacita took their time s

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack enjoyed some treats when I took them out to work on getting Racer more comfortable with having the harness put on her. Ever since I started using the harness with her, she has been walking very well with hardly any pulling on the leash; but she has been greeting me at the door with a bit of wariness at the prospect of having the harness put on. Hopefully, she can overcome that hesitancy with a little work. Out on the trails, Racer, Griff, Sputnik, and Colby all munched on some snow as we made our way up to the Mesa Trail at the Chautauqua. It was a fairly quiet morning, but we did pass by some other dogs along the way. Racer and Sputnik both barked at the first c

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers, Sputnik, and Mamacita sniffed intently around the base of a small bush right where the Mesa Trail branches off from Bluebell Road on our way up to the mesa this morning. Rucksack was already off ahead, wondering what was holding his packmates up. Once up on the mesa, Ruffers had fun chasing Rucksack through the snow. Sputnik and Mamacita were both in an ornery mood when we first arrived at the trail, and barked at other dogs in the parking lot while they were still in the car; but once we got out on the trails, they behaved themselves far more civilly and kept it together even when some dogs came near to sniff hello. Variety Pack The pack enjoyed a nice walk along

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack It was another very cold day today, but the pack had a fun time out on the snowy trails. Racer munched on snow all along the way. Colby and Griff both bounded through the fields beside the trail, but they were on different pages and didn't chase each other - they just each ran around on their own. Sputnik was much better mannered today when we came by a young, yellow Lab - the only other dog we saw while we were out. Variety Pack A big flock of geese took off from beside Wonderland Lake as the pack walked by this afternoon. Zoey and Rey were the most interested in the flurry of honks and movement that passed overhead. Racer and little Zoe both wanted to sniff along in the

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita sported her green sweatshirt this morning for our hike in the cold. Sputnik, Roger Roger, and Rucksack's denser coats kept them warm enough. Sputnik and Rucksack were both extremely interested in sniffing around in the snowy brush as we went. Mamacita and Sputnik weren't particularly friendly when a yellow Lab came along and paused to stare at us from a short distance away. It may be coincidence, but it seems to me that our pack members who sometimes lack civility tend to be most prone to such outbursts when the temperature drops. Variety Pack Racer and Monarch trotted through the snow beside the path for much of the way as we walked around Wonderland Lake this af

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik, Rucksack, and Roger Roger were joined by old friends Clover and Monarch for our hike at the CU South Campus trails this morning. Monarch off-roaded for much of the hike, opting to wade through the tall grass rather than stick to the trail. Sputnik joined her to sniff around a lot of the time. Rucksack went to work giving Clover an ear-bath over the course of our trek. Clover didn't mind the attention, and by the time we made our way around the loop, her ears were well dampened by Rucksack's tongue. Roger Roger trotted along in step with me the whole time, and behaved himself very well. Variety Pack The pack had a lot of fun at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon!

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There was a big, uprooted tree across the trail at Enchanted Mesa that must have been taken down in the powerful winds we had last night. The pack were all very interested in the landmark. After sniffing around it for a bit, Sputnik and Racer started chomping on nearby fallen twigs. Colby enjoyed using the tree trunk as a hurdle, and hopped over it several times while goading Griff into chasing her around it. Variety Pack Much as Sputnik and Racer this morning, Isaac and little Zoe were drawn to chomping on twigs that were scattered in the grass at the park beside the Bear Creek Path. While they busied themselves breaking up sticks, Avo hopped around Zoey with playful bows

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita found a good spot to wiggle in the snow as we hiked at the CU South Campus trails this morning, while Sputnik looked on at my side. Meanwhile, Ruffers, Yoda, and Rucksack were entertaining each other as they raced around. Ruffers and Rucksack did most of the running, but Yoda joined in for short spurts of playful leaps and dodges. Sputnik always makes the most stops to sniff and pee out of the pack, but he did so an inordinate number of times today even for him. Variety Pack The pack burst onto the scene at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon brimming with friendly excitement. Rey and little Zoe immediately took to a group of small dogs including a young, black Da

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack were all captivated by the scents to be found along the Mesa Trail this morning. Colby, Racer, Griff, and Sputnik all sniffed furiously at the snow on a stretch just after the big slope up to the mesa. Later on, we came across a muddy patch along a mountainside stretch of trail and everyone's noses were back to work. Griff and Sputnik were especially interested in the muddy spot and really didn't want to move on, but I hurried them along with concern that they might want to take it a step further and give the mud a taste test. Variety Pack Avo and Rey were full of playful puppy energy during our light hike at the CU South Campus trails this afternoon. They hopped

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure PACK Sputnik, Mamacita, Roger Roger, and Rucksack hiked to the Enchanted Mesa from the Chautauqua this morning. Roger Roger munched on some snow along the way. Mamacita was in an ornery mood and barked at a couple of the people we passed on the trail. Sputnik and Rucksack sniffed at opposite sides of the trail as we went. vARIETY pACK Our newest packmate, Avo, had her second birthday today and enjoyed spending the afternoon with Rey, Zoey, and Sputnik. Avo and Sputnik's schedules don't typically overlap and Sputnik was a little grumbly when they first greeted each other; but after walking together for a while, they were both making play-bows and hopping around in front of one a

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack and Roger Roger had fun running around in the snow together at the CU South Campus trails this morning. I occasionally had to call Roger Roger off when he got too worked up and started harassing Rucksack by gnawing at his legs and ears. They happily greeted the dogs we passed along the way, while Mamacita and Sputnik stayed at my side. At one point, we saw a dog at a distance who bore a strong resemblance to our pack member Ruffers. Rucksack and Roger Roger rushed ahead to greet the dog, and Sputnik perked up noticeably. Though the dog proved not to be Ruffers, Rucksack and Roger Roger still had fun hopping around with her for a couple minutes. Variety Pack Avo,

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We didn't see many people or any other dogs out on the trails at the Chautauqua this morning. The pack enjoyed the snow. Griff and Colby especially had fun running through the deeper stuff off-trail. Variety Pack Yoda led the sniff patrol this afternoon in Sputnik's stead. Zoey joined him to sniff around some of the time. The other pack members weren't all that interested in scent investigations. Avo's attention was all over the place, whereas Milo and Isaac followed along right behind me throughout the walk, dutiful companions.

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers and Rucksack chased each other all around the trails at CU South Campus this morning. They were soon joined by Rey, who tried her best to keep up with the big dogs bounding through the snow. Rey didn't want to leave Mamacita and Sputnik out of the fun, so she came over to us and hopped around with them as well. Variety Pack Yoda, Isaac, Sputnik, Roger Roger, Zoey, and Rey all walked around Wonderland Lake together this afternoon. There were a couple points along the way when both Rey and Zoey started holding up a paw; both times were shortly after we started walking on an exposed sidewalk rather than a snow-covered path, so it might actually have been the salt that

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff and Ruffers enjoyed running up and down the trail together while Colby, Racer, and Sputnik hiked along at my side this morning at the CU South Campus trails. Griff and Ruffers found one interesting spot to sniff beside the trail. The rest of the pack were eager to check it out for themselves, so we made a stop there to let everyone sniff it over to their satisfaction. Variety Pack Isaac was happy to get his paws wet in Boulder Creek during our walk this afternoon. Rey and Zoey hung out on the bank with me as Isaac walked around in circles, enjoying the water. It was a very pleasant afternoon and the pack trotted along the Boulder Creek Path very nicely, with a couple

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack, Roger Roger, and Sputnik all hopped up on a big boulder along the Mesa Trail this morning. Mamacita didn't make the leap to get up on top of it, and hung out on solid earth instead. The slope up to the mesa was very icy and slick. Finding firm footing on the way up and down was a perilous proposition, but the pack bore with me as I slowly made my way. Variety Pack Rey and Zoey were full of energy when they got together this afternoon. After their initial flurry of excitement, little Zoe joined in with them and they all got work up again. After that, we set out for our walk around Wonderland Lake. Zoe, Zoey, and Rey left their wild energy behind and walked along

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack had a calm, pleasant walk along the Bear Creek Path this morning. Sputnik made a lot of stops to leave scent marks along the way, as he always does. Mamacita joined him to sniff around in the snowy bank and leave her own scent marks about half the time. Rucksack and Roger Roger were happy keeping mostly to the path. Variety Pack Avo was especially wiggly and excited when I picked her up this afternoon. I think she had a lot of fun at the park Wednesday and was eager to go play more; however, we went for an on-leash walk along the Boulder Creek Path today, instead. At one point, we pulled over to a field beside the path for a minute and Avo tried to stir up some f

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack A curious, black Lab passed by the pack during our hike and drew some anxious grumbles from both Griff and Sputnik. When we passed the same Lab near the end of our hike, Griff was feeling more relaxed and he, Racer, and Colby all sniffed hello while Sputnik still struggled with some nervous energy. In between our encounters with the Lab, Griff and Colby had fun running around through the snowy fields beside the trail. Racer has continued to get better and better at walking on the leash, and has made a marked improvement since I started using the Easy Walk harness on her. Variety Pack Zoey was very interested in a flock of geese that were hanging out in a field we passed alo
