Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rey and Isaac joined Adventure Pack regulars Sputnik and Roger Roger for our hike at Settlers' Park this morning. Roger Roger's big brother, Rucksack, took the day off from hiking today since he is still feeling a bit stiff and sore. We headed up the Anemone Trail but didn't make it to the top today. Even though temps were only in the 70's, the sunny sky contributed to a good deal of panting and a slower pace. Rey and Roger Roger seemed the most winded on our way up the mountain, while Sputnik and Isaac were kept pace without lagging behind. But everyone was very eager to take some water from the CamelBak during each and every break along the way. Variety Pack Griff, Rey,

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack With the warm, humid weather and cloud cover, it seemed like another good day to walk Boulder Creek Path. Curie, Sputnik, Racer, and Griff all were very interested in making frequent pit-stops to sniff around at the side of the path, so we took a pretty leisurely pace for most of the way. Sputnik seems to be fully over his former romantic intentions with Curie, and they have been getting along fine. Whenever we were walking close to the creek, Racer was interested in the ducks that were swimming. A very nice woman offered to take a photo of me with the pack when she saw me snapping a photo of the dogs beside the path. A friend of hers also took a photo and it turns out th

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Curie joined Mamacita, Rucksack, and her buddy Sputnik for our outing this morning. It was a pretty hot day, so we stuck to Boulder Creek. Rucksack and Sputnik waded out into the Creek the furthest, but Mamacita and Curie lingered in the water the longest. Rucksack and Sputnik both managed to find some water enough to do a little bit of dog-paddling. Curie and Mamacita were a little less adventurous, and stuck to the shallows. Variety Pack Rey, Zoey, Isaac, Griff, and Roger Roger enjoyed our breaks in the shade along the Bear Creek Path. Everyone stuck together and kept pace very well, which made for a calm, pleasant afternoon walk. Isaac was raring to go at the outset,

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer showed slightly more restraint than usual when the pack hopped into the ditch stream on our way up Anemone Mountain this morning. She was still eager to get in, but she didn't pull full-force to try to drag us there. After the pack splashed around for a minute, we headed all the way to the top of the mountain again. Sputnik enjoyed some off-leash time with Griff when there weren't any other dogs around. Variety Pack Avo and Zoey were all about the tennis balls at the park today. Rey chased some tennis balls, as well, but she was more interested in just running around. Whenever a fresh tennis ball was thrown for Avo and she caught it, she would immediately discard it

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Isaac led the charge into the stream on our way up the Anemone Trail this morning. Rucksack, Roger Roger, and Sputnik all happily followed suit. For the first time in memory, somebody accurately guessed that Sputnik is a Rottweiler mix. The same couple that guessed Sputnik's heritage were also amused by Isaac's wallowing in the water. Although Isaac was the first in, Rucksack and Roger Roger were the last ones out. We headed partway up the Anemone Trail, but Rucksack seemed a little stiff today so we came back down through the Red Rocks and then finished up by walking along the Creek for a bit. Variety Pack Griff, Rey, and Zoey were all on the same page about when and whe

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack With the relatively cool temperature, a gentle breeze, and good cloud cover, the pack made it all the way up Anemone Mountain this morning. We started off the hike with a quick dip in Boulder Creek, then began our ascent. There were a few groups of people at the top of the mountain. Roger Roger, Rucksack, and Sputnik all got some love from them. Variety Pack The sun was back out this afternoon. Milo sat down in the shade at a few points along our walk around Wonderland Lake. Zoey and Isaac were happy to oblige their packmate, and cooled off with him, too.

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Curie greeted me with a rapidly wiggling tail stub, and repeated snorts directly in my face as I squatted down to say hello and hook up her harness. It was cool enough to head up the Anemone Trail with the pack this morning. The dogs were happy to hop into the ditch stream after we came down and were crossing over to the Red Rocks. We stopped beside a short, wooden bridge that heads toward Mount Sanitas, and Racer looked like she was considering diving off of the bridge into the water. She thought better of it, though, and entered the water from the bank instead. Sputnik sniffed intently at Curie's ears a few times while we were out, but he managed to contain what amorous

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Isaac bolted into the ditch stream with singular purpose. Rucksack and Sputnik were off leash and already wading through the water. Mamacita followed behind Isaac with a more polite approach. We had taken advantage of the cooler weather and headed up the Red Rocks mountain trail this morning. When we reached the ditch after the first stretch of our ascent, the dogs lingered a long while in the water, cooling off before the last leg of our ascent to the Red Rocks formation. Variety Pack Isaac, Rey, Roger Roger, and Zoey enjoyed a (mostly) relaxed walk around Wonderland Lake this afternoon. The only interruption to the calm was when Rey saw a rabbit in a field beside the tr

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack It was another hot morning, and we took our time as we ambled along the Boulder Creek Path. We didn't have Mamacita stopping to sniff aimlessly through the grass like we did yesterday. Yoda, Griff, Racer, and Sputnik all did a lot of sniffing around, but they did so with more of an air of purpose, as they put their noses close to the ground and seemed to follow scents until deciding on places to leaves their marks. The Creek provided some welcome relief from the heat. Racer always hurried to be the first one in, while Sputnik was always satisfied being the first one out. Griff and Yoda took their time on both sides. Variety Pack The dogs were surprisingly active at the do

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita kept drawing the pack off to the grassy fields beside the Boulder Creek Path this morning. She didn't seem to be interested in any particular scent, and she didn't wiggle around in the grass at all - she just slowly meandered through, sniffing casually along the way. Sputnik, Rucksack, and Roger Roger didn't mind taking their time and sniffing along with her. We made a few stops at the Creek, and everybody was happy to go in each time. Sputnik and Rucksack waded out as far as they could get. Roger Roger and Mamacita were a little more reserved, and kept to relatively shallow waters. Variety Pack Despite the heat, Rey, Blu, Isaac, and Zoey all had a lot of fun pla

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita, Sputnik, Rucksack, and Roger Roger enjoyed hiking up the Red Rocks Trails from Settler's Park this morning. There were very few other hikers around. The dogs thoroughly enjoyed their stops in the ditch stream. Sputnik was the first one out each time, while Mamacita was the last. After our first stop at the stream, we approached a switchback to head up to the Red Rocks. Knowing the way - and showing a little more enthusiasm than lately - Mamacita cut the corner and went up just ahead, while me and the rest of the pack rounded the corner the long way. After we came down from the mountain, we walked Boulder Creek for a bit. It was a pretty mellow outing for the pa

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer and Curie had their first meeting today! Even though Racer is a regular member of the Thursday morning Adventure Pack, she didn't join us for Curie's first couple pack outings. The two of them greeted each other pleasantly. Sputnik's jets had cooled significantly since his hike with Zoey yesterday, and he didn't hover around Curie or barrage her with kisses today. The pack all enjoyed Boulder Creek, as we stopped to get in the water a couple times during our walk. Racer was gung ho about diving in at each of our stops, and led the way. Griff, Curie, and Sputnik all eagerly followed. Racer also tried to get ahead of the gang while walking, so I had to check her and

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack It was good to be back with the pack after a nice vacation visiting family in New England! Zoey switched to the Adventure Pack today, and Sputnik was very happy to see her. They have had several affectionate - even amorous - encounters while staying over together, and the sparks were still flying on our outing this morning. Zoey didn't show any sign that she minded Sputnik's several attempts to mount her, but I broke up the funny business. Mamacita started to limp at one point, after stepping on a cactus pod. I checked her paw and found the prickly culprit nestled between her foot pads. She struggled a little to balance on three legs as I plucked the impediment free, alo

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Isaac, Curie, Sputnik, and Griff headed up to the Red Rocks from Settler's Park this morning. Isaac and Sputnik both hurried into the stream when we reached it after a short ascent. Curie and Griff stepped in with a more measured approach than their packmates, but were happy to wade around in the water as well. Sputnik didn't fawn over Curie the way he had during their previous two outings together. He was busy sniffing and leaving scent marks along the trail. We made a lot of stops along the way for the pack to sniff stuff out. After making our way back down from the Red Rocks, the pack enjoyed spending the rest of our outing on a pleasant walk along Boulder Creek. Vari

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Isaac and Rucksack couldn't get enough of Boulder Creek this morning. Mamacita and Sputnik both waited on the bank while their packmates kept turning back to make another pass through the water. They had both already been in for a quick dip, and they both hopped in once more before we moved along. Near the end of our walk, we came across packmate Milo on a walk of his own, right by Eben G. Fine Park! Milo did a little dance as the dogs all sniffed hello. It was a very nice way to wrap up our walk! Variety Pack Zoey, Griff, Rey, Roger Roger, and Isaac headed out for a walk along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. It was pretty nice out, with good cloud cover to keep the
