Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Something tickled at Mamacita's olfactory senses on a slight delay, and she turned to back-track to the origin of the scent of interest. It was a tuft of grass just beside the trail, about ten feet back. Roger Roger, Sputnik, and Ruffers all circled around to assess Mamacita's find for themselves. There were a couple similar points along the way, where everyone congregated to sniff a spot simultaneously - each dog approaching the spot from their own quadrant. Variety Pack Rey and Racer perked up at the sound of some dogs barking at us from off in the distance as we walked the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Isaac, Zoey, and Griff were not concerned. Zoey wanted to make se

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita was especially interested pulling off the trail to sniff in the brush today. Roger Roger and Dylan stuck close by throughout the hike. When Sputnik went off the leash, he and Dylan checked out spots to pee on together. We took a different route back to the trail head today, and Dylan was resistant about the change in course. I had him on leash at that juncture, and drew him along. He stopped resisting just a few paces in, after trying to veer back to the trail knew. Variety Pack Racer, Milo, Blu, Isaac, Zoey, and Ruffers spent a quiet afternoon walking the Bear Creek Path. We only saw one other dog playing in a field some distance away, and a few people passed b

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Roger Roger and Ruffers had fun chasing each other up and down the trail today. Their fun came to an end after Roger Roger wandered off the trail and rolled in some scat, then spent the remainder of the hike on leash so I could better control him and keep him from rubbing against his packmates. The CamelBak came in handy as I used it to spray most of the poo off him, but there was still some residue. Meanwhile, Sputnik and Mamacita were on the lookout for patches of snow to munch on - few and far between, but they enjoyed them when they could. Variety Pack The pack had a calm and pleasant walk along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Milo, Zoey, Riley, Racer, and Avo walk

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Dylan and Roger Roger wiggled in the snow at the same spot Dylan did Wednesday. Mamacita and Sputnik ate a little bit of snow today, but not much. During the first half of our hike, Dylan and Roger Roger lingered behind to sniff around. During the second half, they scouted ahead. I called them back every so often when they started to get too far ahead. Most times, they came right back; however, Dylan decided to make a stubborn stand at one point and stood in the trail for a good, long while. One hiker who passed by commented that Dylan had "no intention" of turning around. It took a lot of patience, but Dylan eventually came and rejoined us as we walked in the other dir

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer and Mamacita joined Sputnik in munching snow as we hiked at Shanahan Ridge this morning. Griff did not partake, as he was busy sniffing and leaving scent marks. We saw a few other dogs on the trail, and the pack walked by with pleasant demeanors. Griff stopped to sniff in the wake of a Golden Retriever who didn't pause to say hello. Variety Pack Zoey, Poppy, Riley, Avo, and Milo were off to the races when we got to the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. After running around with each other and greeting some of the other dogs at the park, everyone but Milo turned their attentions to chasing after tennis balls as I threw them. Milo wasn't particularly interested in the

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik munched on snow from every remaining snow bank we passed today. While he chomped away at one patch, Dylan flopped down and started wiggling on his back. The snowy patch was on a slight incline, so Dylan gradually slid away as he writhed around. Ruffers and Mamacita causally sniffed around while their packmates enjoyed the snow. When Sputnik wasn't stopping to eat snow, he was sniffing and leaving scent marks. Dylan and Mamacita both checked out many of the spots Sputnik found. Later in the hike, something caught Dylan's nose and he wandered off the trail and down a hill. It wasn't long before he came trotting back up, with an innocent smile on his face. Variety

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik was all about munching on snow again from the dwindling snow banks beside the trails at Shanahan Ridge. His packmates today - Yoda, Griff, and Racer - didn't care about eating snow, but they all did a lot of sniffing around while Sputnik chowed down. Variety Pack Poppy, Avo, Rey, and Milo did a lot of running at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. Rey ran with Avo. Then with Poppy. Poppy ran with Milo. Avo ran with Milo and Rey. There were a few other dogs who joined in to wrestle around with Milo or chase after Avo and Poppy. Avo spent a while trying to figure out the challenge of picking up a frisbee from the ground, and she paraded around with it proudly onc

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Ruffers, Roger Roger, Sputnik, and Poppy headed to Shanahan Ridge for their hike this morning. We didn't come across any other dogs today. Ruffers and Roger Roger entertained each other with chases, wrestling matches, and some keep-away over a branch that Roger Roger found. Poppy hopped around while watching her packmates run and dodge around. Sputnik was occupied with sniffing, peeing, and munching on snow. The rest of the pack nibbled at a little snow here and there, but Sputnik couldn't get enough of the stuff. Variety Pack Rey and Riley were excited and scattered at the beginning of our walk this afternoon. After sniffing around a bit and finding the right spots to r

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Roger Roger and Ruffers kept each other entertained throughout our hike at Shanahan Ridge this morning. Early on, Roger Roger chased Ruffers around. Later, Roger Roger found a choice stick and played keep-away while Ruffers chased after him. Mamacita and Sputnik were entertained watching their packmates. Everyone enjoyed munching on some snow here and there, but Sputnik indulged the most. Variety Pack Riley, Rey, and Zoey had a lot of fun running around at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. It was usually Rey playing rabbit while the others pursued her - often joined by one or two of the other dogs at the park. Later on in the visit, Zoey stole a red, rubber ball from

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita and Sputnik chomped on a lot of snow during our hike at Shanahan Ridge this morning. Dylan found several spots along the way where he felt compelled to wiggle around in the snow. Mamacita joined in the fun one time. Roger Roger was happy to give Dylan chase whenever Dylan got excited and ran along the trail for a spurt. Several dogs came over to greet the pack throughout our hike, and Sputnik was the calmest I've seen him in recent memory. Variety Pack Ruffers, Poppy, and Zoey walked the Boulder Creek Path together this afternoon. everyone watched the geese with interest when we passed by them near the the library. We pulled off to a snowy field at a couple poin

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Zoey joined the pack for our hike at Shanahan Ridge this morning, and she had fun bounding along the snowy trail. Her antics got Sputnik and Racer both excited. She and Racer hopped around in front of each other a few times during one of Zoey's playful bursts. Griff was more interested in poking around in the snow, and didn't give chase to his rambunctious packmate. When we were nearing the end of the hike and she went back on leash, Sputnik was feeling randy and kept trying to mount her. Variety Pack Avo was not thrilled to go out in the rain this afternoon, so I put her coat on her to help keep her dry. Riley was in the opposite mood, and couldn't wait to get out. I th

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Dylan and Ruffers had a great time sniffing their ways around as they wandered off-leash together at Shanahan Ridge. When either of them got ahead of the pack and I called them back, they would bound through the snow with zeal and race by us, then turn and run back again. Sputnik and Mamacita stayed on leash with me, and sniffed at spots beside the trail. As the hike continued, Dylan and Ruffers started lagging behind rather than getting ahead. Mamacita found a dry patch of grass where the snow had already melted, and she enjoyed a good wiggle in it. Variety Pack Clover, Monarch, Cooper, Roger Roger, Rey, Poppy, and Zoey headed to the trail loop at CU South this afternoon.

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The wind was blowing as the pack hiked the southern loop at Shanahan Ridge this morning. There was one stretch where a hill broke the wind and gave us some tranquility, and we were able to enjoy the warm, sunny weather. We saw a few other hikers out, but not many. Racer trod through the deeper snow beside the trail most of the time. Yoda, Sputnik, and Griff kept to the packed-down snow with me, except when they wanted to sniff around at a particular tree or shrub. Variety Pack Isaac had a hard time tracking tennis balls in the snow today, so we cycled through a lot of different ones. Sometimes Avo or Zoey was there to snatch one up when Isaac lost it. Zoey and Rey both w

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Roger Roger and Ruffers started off the hike with lots of dodging and wrestling, enjoying their off-leash time together. Sputnik and Mamacita sniffed along the edge of the trail and found a couple trees that were of particular interest. Later on, we passed through a wide open stretch of trail where I was able to let Sputnik off leash to play with Ruffers. The play didn't last all that long, because Sputnik kept bulldozing over Ruffers and she gave up on trying to make play moves with him. Variety Pack Rey, Avo, Riley, Zoey, and Cooper walked the Boulder Creek Path together this afternoon. Everyone wanted to climb over the snow mounds beside the path through Eben G. Fine Pa
