Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The trails were sparsely traveled again this morning. At the end of our hike, the dogs enjoyed tromping through the fresh snow at Chautauqua Park. I scooped snow up to throw each of them a snowball, and they each caught theirs! Racer especially liked the snow, and chomped it up as we walked through it. Variety Pack Isaac, Milo, Zoey, Avo, and Rey all had a blast at the Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. Isaac carried a tennis ball with him as he played chase with his packmates. He played less fetch than usual as he was caught up in running with the others. Avo picked out broken balls to carry in between playing rabbit while all the others raced after her. In addition to c

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The trails were quiet, the snap of cold weather keeping hikers at home for the today. We pulled off to the side of the trail many times on our way up. Roger Roger, Rucksack, and Sputnik sniffed around in the grass while Mamacita went for a wiggle. As is often the case when cold weather hits, Sputnik was more ornery about passing dogs and growled at a couple of them, with Mamacita chiming in once as well. Rucksack and Roger Roger were their usual, friendly selves. Variety Pack Zoe and Rey were very excited about the wildlife we saw as we walked along the Boulder Creek Path this afternoon. Zoe barked at a squirrel in Eben G. Fine Park while Rey started pulling at the leash

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There were many friendly hikers who admired the pack during our hike at the Chautauqua the morning. Rucksack and Roger Roger were happy to soak up the love from a nice couple who said they know a dog who looks just like Roger Roger. Sputnik was jealous of all the attention his Doodle packmates were getting, and slipped in to get some pets for himself. Mamacita seemed to be feeling better than she had been the past week. She didn't eat much grass today but she did have fun wiggling around in it a couple times along the way. Variety Pack Clover, Monarch, Zoey, Blu, and Zoe enjoyed a walk around Wonderland Lake this afternoon. Everyone was eager to sniff around in the fresh,

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff and Colby had fun climbing up the mountainside as we hiked the Flatiron Loop this morning. They were both drawn by a squirrel who ran up a tree as we approached it. Sputnik and Racer were hiking along at my side and didn't make any attempt to go after the squirrel. Racer and Griff were both pretty interested in munching on the fresh grass growing beside the trail on our way down Bluebell Road. Variety Pack Blu, Zoe, Zoey, Avo, and Isaac all enjoyed a walk around the loop at CU South Campus this afternoon. A very friendly black Lab came over to us at one point while we were pulled over to the side of the trail, and sniffed hello with everyone. The whole pack were hap

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita, Sputnik, and Rucksack all waded through the tall grass on our way up the trail this morning, pausing regularly to sniff around and nibble on grass. Mamacita flopped down for a wiggle on three separate occasions. She also ate the most grass, and vomited it up later on in the hike. Variety Pack Little Zoe, Big Zoey, and Rey all enjoyed wrestling around together at the house before we headed out for our walk around Wonderland Lake. Roger Roger stayed out of the fray and just observed. When we were out walking, Rey and Zoe were a bit rambunctious and kept getting their leashes wrapped around each other as they repeatedly swapped positions while striving to pull off t

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack At the outset of our hike, everyone was in agreement that some serious sniffing needed to be done. After the initial round, Colby and Sputnik both went back to the brush for more along the short stretch before our ascent. We saw a lot of dogs on the trails today, and Sputnik was calm and pleasant with each passing. Colby jumped away when one young woman reached down to try to pet her, and then Sputnik hurried over to accept the attention in her place. We perched on some boulders beside the trail at one point. Racer stared intently out into the distance and started to pull at the leash and whimper, though neither I nor her packmates were able to detect whatever had caught

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The trails were sparsely traveled on this drizzly morning at the Chautauqua. Rucksack, Roger Roger, and Sputnik all gradually grew wetter and wetter over the course of our hike. We avoided the rocky ascent to the Third Flatiron, expecting that the boulders would be slick from the rain, and walked around in the park after making our way back down the trail. Variety Pack The dreary weather continued through the afternoon, when Zoey, Ruffers, Rey, and little Zoe walked the Bear Creek Path together. Before that, we had stopped by the house to pick up Zoe, and the girls all had fun chasing each other around indoors for a short bit. Rey was at the center of the hubbub, with both

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita grazed on grass while Rucksack, Roger Roger, and Sputnik sniffed at other tufts of grass in turn and all left scent marks. Mamacita was moving pretty slowly on our way up the mountain and then it became obvious why, when her stomach started turning and she vomited up the grass she had been munching on. We kept a nice, easy pace for the rest of the hike and avoided the rocky terrain of the Flatiron Loop, opting to instead head back down the mountain early and then meander through Chautauqua Park. Variety Pack Little Zoe, Zoey, and Ruffers enjoyed walking the Bear Creek Path together this sunny afternoon. When we stopped in the park for a few minutes, Zoey found a sm

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Griff, Sputnik, Colby, and Racer took their time heading up the Chautauqua Trail, as they wanted to sniff around numerous boulders and tufts of grass along the way. I've been thinking lately about what a long way Racer has come regarding walking on the leash. I suspect she would regress at least some if I went back to using her collar, but she has been an exceptionally well-mannered walker on the harness. The trails were very busy today, and Colby didn't seem nervous about all the people around. It seems to be that she gets the most skittish when the hikers we encounter are fewer and farther between. Sputnik behaved himself well through each pass of other dogs we encounte

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack and Ruffers explored off the trail as we made our way up the Chautauqua Trail this morning. Something down in the gully attracted their attentions, and Ruffers went down to investigate. She looked a little too interested, so I called for her to come back to the pack on the trail, but she ignored me. Rucksack was also very curious, but he stayed close when I told him to. Ruffers spent a long while down there before finally deciding to rejoin the rest of us, and she spent the rest of the hike on leash after that. Through all that, Sputnik and Mamacita didn't seem to pick up on whatever their packmates found so interesting. Variety Pack Roger Roger, Rey, and Zoey e

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik and Colby had fun running around together in the fields as we headed up the Chautauqua Trail this morning. A little later on, when we came upon more hikers, Sputnik went back on the leash and Griff got to explore in the brush with Colby. Some of the people we came by asked if they could pet the pack. Sputnik was quick to go up and get as much love as he could. Racer soon followed him for some pets as well, while Colby and Griff preferred to keep to themselves. Variety Pack After making friends with a Husky at the park a couple weeks ago, Milo was drawn to another Husky who showed up during our park visit today. After following him for a while, Milo eventually got

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack, Roger Roger, Sputnik, and Mamacita all got lots of comments from the many hikers out today, on what a cute pack they made. We passed a lot of dogs and Sputnik only grumbled a little bit at a pair of Huskies who were tethered to a fence post and were leaping and panting, trying to get over to greet us. Mamacita enjoyed a wiggly in the grass on our way up the mountain. When we returned to the packmobile, next to the park, there were some kids running around and squealing at the far end of the park. The high-pitched sounds made Mamacita uncomfortable, and she wanted to hurry back to the haven of the packmobile as quickly as possible. Variety Pack Oliver, Benny, Zoey

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Despite the lingering cold weather and falling snow this morning, the Chautauqua was much busier than yesterday. We came across many hikers who admired how sweet and well-behaved the pack all were. Sputnik was especially happy to have the attention of people we passed. He stared at them with hopeful eyes as he pulled close, wishing for them to reach down and give him a pat as he walked by. His efforts earned him a lot of affectionate, "aww!" responses, but, sadly for him, no hands-on attention. Roger Roger munched on a lot of snow along the side of the trail today. Mamacita and Sputnik got into a playful mood as we walked across the park at the end of the hike, and they

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack enjoyed the snowy trails this morning. I threw some snowballs for them all to catch. Racer was the most on it, and Colby was pretty quick to go for them, too. Griff let the first snowball land right next to him without flinching, but when I threw a second one to him, he caught it and then did a victory sprint all around the trail. The trails were pretty empty again today, so Sputnik enjoyed running around with Griff for a bit. Judging by Sputnik's colorful deposits the past couple mornings, I suspect the kids at home are wondering where all their crayons have gone. Variety Pack Avo, Ruffers, Oliver, Benny, and Zoey enjoyed a nice walk around Wonderland Lake this

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The weather took a drastic turn today, and the trails were all but empty as the pack braved the sleet and snow. It wasn't long before Ruffers, Rucksack, Sputnik, and Mamacita were blanketed with a layer of snow, just like the terrain around us. Variety Pack Zoey, Rey, Roger Roger, and Ruffers didn't mind the weather as they walked the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Rey was full of pep and had to be reined in during the first half of the walk, before she eventually settled down and walked more calmly along with her packmates. Ruffers, on the other hand, started off the walk very relaxed but then got into a playful mood with Zoey during the last stretch, as we made our way a

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Colby, Racer, and Sputnik were feeling the heat, and were all eager to have a drink each time we took a water break during today's hike. Racer was the thirstiest, and watched her packmates impatiently while they took their turns drinking. Griff was too busy roaming the mountainside, and didn't bother to come take any water during any of our stops. The trails were pretty busy with both dogs and humans today. Colby, Griff, and Racer sniffed friendly hellos. Sputnik grumbled a little bit at one dog who came right up among the pack, but he didn't get too worked up. Variety Pack Avo led a big run with her packmates Rey, Zoey, and Milo at the park this afternoon. While they ra

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Roger Roger and Rucksack exhibited their status as seasoned mountaineers, as they climbed up and down the rubbly mountainside, off-trail, on our way around the Third Flatiron Loop this morning. Mamacita, on the other hand, may be starting to show her age, as she awkwardly clambered over one of the stepping-boulders on our ascent of the trail. Sputnik handled the rocky stuff without any problems as he hiked on-leash beside Mamacita and me. Today was one of those days he wanted to stop as often as possible to leave his mark along the way, but he at least held off during that stretch of trail. Variety Pack Zoey, Ruffers, Oliver, Benny, and Rey enjoyed a beautiful afternoon wal

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack When we hit the trails at CU South Campus this morning, Ruffers and Zoey paired off to play, Milo and Rucksack paired off to explore, and Sputnik and Roger Roger stayed on leash with me. The whole pack gathered together to sniff some spots along the way, and to greet a couple of the other dogs we encountered. Rucksack led the off-leash crew into some muddy ditch water, but they got to wash the muck off in the pond later on, near the end of the hike. At the pond, Rucksack and Zoey both swam out a ways, while Ruffers and Milo splashed around in the shallows, and Sputnik and Roger just got their paws wet at the water's edge, During the latter part of the hike, Milo became ve

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack It was another busy day at the Chautauqua, and many hikers commented on how well behaved Griff, Colby, Racer, and Sputnik all were. Colby was more comfortable with the people today than she had been earlier in the week, and didn't skirt around them with wary looks. She and Griff did some off-trail exploration together as we hiked the Third Flatiron Loop. Racer and Sputnik were good on-leash hikers, and kept by my side without pulling at any point. At the end of our hike, we came across an excited, yellow Lab who came over to sniff hello with the pack. I was happy to see Sputnik wagging his tail and sniffing at the air with his ears in a relaxed position as the Lab, named

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There were some magpies hanging around the Chautauqua Trail this morning. The pack watched them with interest as we passed through the area where they were. Ruffers was particularly focused on them, and stopped for a moment to stare, as the birds hopped around in the grassy field beside the trail. Rucksack is still enjoying the snowy patches when he can find them. He ran downhill, off the trail, to frolic in one today, while Mamacita and Sputnik hiked along at my side and Ruffers sniffed at the edge of the trail while bringing up the rear. Mamacita sniffed around in the grass a few times along the way. I thought she was going to wiggle around in it, but it turned out she
