Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Yoda, Griff, Sputnik, and Isaac headed up the Anemone Trail from Settler's Park this morning. The boys made lots of stops to sniff and leave scent marks along the side of the trail. Griff was the most interested he has ever been in taking water from the CamelBak. Yoda abstained from water on our way up the mountain, but was the first in and last out of the stream when we made a stop there on our way over to the Red Rocks side of the trail system. Sputnik gave the most loving eyes he could to a family we passed on our way down the mountain. They commented on how cute the pack was, but today was the first day in a while that Sputnik went without pets from strangers. Variety

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita, Rucksack, Roger Roger, and Sputnik took their time walking the Boulder Creek Path this morning. We pulled over frequently for the pack to sniff around in the grass and brush along the way. Sputnik continued his streak of getting pets from random people along the Creek, when he looked up at a man as we were passing by him, and stopped to say hello. The man was happy to give Sputnik some attention before we continued on. Everyone hopped into the creek for a quick dip. Variety Pack Rey, Isaac, and Zoey headed to the CU South trails this afternoon. They were pretty empty. Cloud cover was spotty, so we lingered in the shade of trees for water breaks now and then. E

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There was a fishy smell in the air along much of Boulder Creek this morning, so the pack didn't get in at the usual spots. There was one area where I didn't notice the smell, so Mamacita, Roger Roger, Rucksack, and Sputnik got in for a quick dip. Hopefully they didn't carry an odor when they went home. I didn't notice one on them during the rest of our walk, but the scent from the creek was pretty overpowering at some points. Variety Pack Clover, Monarch, Zoey, and Isaac walked the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. It was pretty hot out, but the clouds kept the sun off of us and made it bearable. Isaac enjoyed a wiggle when we stopped at a grassy park along the way, while C

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Curie enjoyed her second outing with the pack today. Since it was a bit cooler and cloudy, we headed up the Anemone Trail from Settler's Park. Griff roamed off leash, while Sputnik and Curie stayed with me. We only went partway up the mountain before heading back down and over to the stream on the way to the Red Rocks Trail. Sputnik started licking Curie's ears on the way down. He has been very enamored with our new addition. When we made it to the Red Rocks, Curie seemed in awe of the view over the city. She stood there for a while, just looking at the movement of cars and people far off in the distance. We then headed back down - with another stop in the stream on th

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack walked the Boulder Creek Path this afternoon. Everyone hopped into the creek during our first stop, but the water was relatively shallow there. When we made another stop on the return leg, Rucksack and Isaac went out to water that was deep enough to swim in. Meanwhile, Sputnik just dunked his face in, and Mamacita stayed ashore. One walker asked to say hello to the pack. He threw his arms out wide, and Sputnik and Mamacita both walked right up for some pets. Rucksack went up after them and got a little attention, too. Isaac hung back, behind me, while his packmates got their fill. Variety Pack Milo, Zoey, Rey, Racer, and Roger Roger walked the Bear Creek Path t

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack headed up the Anemone Trail again today, since it was another relatively-cooler morning. Yoda and Racer, being all black, sought some refuge from the sun by hanging out in shaded spots along the way. Griff and Sputnik wandered off leash and checked out the smells along the way. When we came back down the mountain, Racer was extremely impatient to get into the stream. Griff, Sputnik, and Yoda all hopped in behind her. Yoda and Racer hung out in the water for the longest before we started heading back toward the trail head. Variety Pack There was a playful Husky at the park who tried chasing Isaac as Isaac played fetch, but Isaac barked at him for hovering too clos

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Mamacita hesitated slightly when we turned toward the mountain ascent along the Anemone Trail this morning, but it only took a moment of coaxing to convince her to continue up. Rucksack and Roger Roger were already on their way, up ahead of me, Mamacita, and Sputnik. We came by a couple dogs along the way, and Sputnik stayed calm and polite. About a third of the way up, we took a short break at a small clearing off to the side of the trail, following Rucksack and Roger Roger's lead. Everyone was happy to take as much water as they could. When we turned back to the trail, I was surprised when Mamacita made a move to continue up the mountain, rather than heading back down.

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Rucksack and Sputnik went out into the creek far enough that they could swim. Rucksack went back to swim through that stretch a few times. Mamacita and Roger Roger cooled off in the water, but didn't venture out into the deep water. Mamacita set a conservative pace for the pack, and rolled around in the grass when we took a break in the shade. Roger Roger and Sputnik also stretched out in the grass, and Sputnik found a twig to nibble on. Variety Pack Isaac and Zoey went for a walk to Wonderland Lake this afternoon. Zoey and Isaac were both very interested in sniffing through the grass beside the path as we went. We took some long breaks in the shade, and Isaac went for a

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We had a new member join the pack today - Curie! Curie and Griff were first to meet before our hike. They sniffed each other politely and then Griff lay back down to signal his approval, while Curie continued sniffing around in the back of the car. Sputnik joined us next. He was very interested in Curie and kept sniffing at her the whole way to Eben G. Fine Park. Curie was happy to sniff hello at first, but started to feel a bit cramped and grumbled at Sputnik a few times to give her space. On our walk, Curie stayed right with the pack. She switched positions from one side to the other, stopped in place, and sat when I directed her to - all with hardly any coaxing. Cur

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik was again the least interested in getting into the water the first time we stopped at the creek today. Isaac, Rucksack, and Mamacita waded around for a good, long while. During our subsequent two stops, the heat must have gotten to Sputnik because he no longer hesitated to join his packmates. Variety Pack We walked the shady Bear Creek Path in south Boulder this afternoon. When we passed through a sunny stretch and then neared another patch of shade, Zoey made sure to stop and direct my attention to the oasis. Rey, Roger Roger, and Isaac were all happy to take the breaks, as well. Everyone took water from the CamelBak, and Rey tried nosing in on each of her packma

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack The pack enjoyed a couple dips in Boulder Creek during our walk along it this morning. Racer was so eager to get into the water that she almost dragged me in with her. Yoda and Griff were also happy to get right in, but had enough restraint to approach on loose leashes. Sputnik waited on the bank for a minute before getting his paws wet the first time. On our second stop, Racer was a bit more tame and Sputnik was a bit more interested. There were no geese to be seen at the Kids' Fishing Pond. Variety Pack Isaac and Avo resisted stepping out of the kiddie pool, when I was dumping out the muck so as to refill it with fresh water. As I filled it up again, Zoey and Avo got i

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack We had some cloud cover to mitigate the heat today, so we headed up the mountain. As we neared the stream, Rucksack and Roger Roger ran ahead to jump in. Sputnik and Isaac were eager to follow them and to get into the water themselves. I noticed a strange musk in the air that made me wonder whether there might have been a bear nearby. We headed up to the Red Rocks, and the scent gradually faded on our way up the mountain. Variety Pack They grey cloud cover took on a stormy look over North Boulder, as a continuous roll of thunder grew more and more noticeable. We headed to the Bear Creek Path in South Boulder, where a clear patch held overhead. When we stopped in a grassy

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Roger Roger, Rucksack, Sputnik, and Mamacita all swam around in neck-deep water at Boulder Creek this morning. We went up to the water at the boulder path that runs right by the new bridge, at the far end of the library parking lot. Rucksack and Roger Roger kept coming out and then going back in, making sure to shake off right next to me each time around. Sputnik capped it off with a big shake right in front of me as I squatted on a boulder at the edge of the creek. Mamacita was more polite than the boys, and did her shaking at leash length, off to my side. Variety Pack Isaac, Zoey , and Racer enjoyed a walk to Wonderland Lake this afternoon. Storm clouds hung overhead an

Thursday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack It was hot today! We started up the Anemone Trail, but Sputnik was lagging and it was still going to be a lot more uphill before we reached the stream, so I turned us around and we headed to Boulder Creek. Everybody hopped into the deep water at the same spot we found before, just east of the bridge from Eben G. Fine Park. Racer was very interested in the geese at the kids' fishing pond, even though they were swimming pretty far out. When we took a break in the shade a little while later, Griff was thirsty enough to go for the water from the CamelBak without any coaxing required. Variety Pack The dogs were surprisingly energetic this afternoon, despite the heat. Avo, Zoey

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Early on in our walk along the Boulder Creek Path, Mamacita wandered into the tall grass and went for a wiggle. A little while later, Mamacita, Rucksack, Sputnik, and Isaac all hopped into the creek. Isaac and Rucksack were the ones who lingered in the water today. Further along, we pulled over for a stop in a well-shaded field of green. The geese were swimming in the kids' fishing pond on our way out, but had moved to the near bank for our return leg. We gave them a wide enough berth that none of them felt the need to make threats for us to keep our distance. Variety Pack Zoey, Racer, Roger Roger, and Rey enjoyed a calm, pleasant walk along the Bear Creek Path this after

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack There was a burnt tree trunk lying on the Anemone Trail, on the way up the mountain, that the pack found very interesting. Racer eyed it warily as we approached. Yoda and Griff gave it a goo, long sniff before catching up with the rest of us. Sputnik was the only pack member who didn't take particular notice of it. A little later, everyone was very happy to get into the stream and wade around for a while when we crossed over to the Red Rocks Spurs. We made one more stop in the stream on our way down from the Red Rocks. Racer and Griff found some long, thin branches in the water and held them up proudly. Griff raced up and down the stream's bank, while the rest of the pa

Monday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack As we walked the Boulder Creek Path this morning, Sputnik ventured into the tall grass beside the trail to sniff around for a spot to pee. Mamacita happily followed behind him; however, she didn't need to pee. She just wanted to wade through the grass for the fun of it. After Sputnik did his thing, Mamacita continued to walk through the tall grass for a good stretch. Meanwhile, Rucksack and Roger Roger kept the the path, only sniffing at the edge of the grass beside us. Variety Pack We encountered a few friendly dogs at CU South as the pack went around the big loop this afternoon. Rey was especially excited to stop and greet them. Zoey sniffed in passing. Isaac and Milo

Friday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack I tried taking the pack further up the Anemone Trail at the fork, but Mamacita made it clear she wasn't interested in climbing the mountain today, so we headed down toward the Red Rocks Spurs. Mamacita and Rucksack were the ones lingering in the stream today, while Sputnik and Roger Roger were both satisfied with a quick dip. Variety Pack Sputnik, Zoey, Racer, Milo, Mamacita, and Isaac all came out for a walk to Wonderland Lake this afternoon, joined by my wife, Jen, and some of our human friends who are visiting for the weekend. Everyone was amused when, during one of our several stops in the shade, Mamacita, Isaac, and Milo flopped down to wiggle in the grass. Zoey and Mi

Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Sputnik was the first to hop into the stream on our way up the Red Rocks Trail this morning, unlike yesterday when he just hung out on the bank. While Sputnik was first in, Isaac was last out. He wanted to soak in the water for as long as I would let him. Rucksack and Mamacita also enjoyed a dip. Everyone got into the water a couple more times before the hike was over - once on our way down the trail, and then another time in Boulder Creek after we passed through the park. Variety Pack Milo, Racer, Roger Roger, and Zoey were all happy to spend a little time in the shade of a big tree in one of the parks along the Bear Creek Path this afternoon. Racer pulled a little bit d

Tuesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack Racer and Isaac were so happy to dive into the stream at the Red Rocks Trail this morning. Griff also hopped in, but Racer and Isaac waded around for a long time, dunking their faces into the water and getting as wet as they could. Surprisingly, Sputnik stayed high and dry on the bank. When we passed the water again on our way down the mountain, Sputnik joined his packmates for a dip. Variety Pack Avo played rabbit at the Valmont Dog Park while Rey and Zoey both gave her chase. When Avo finally slowed down and the others caught up with her, she and Rey wrestled around for a while. The two of them tend to get a little carried away when they're wrestling. They've never hur
